The First Aid at Work course will enable individuals to carry out appropriate first aid in an emergency situation in the workplace. Following the course, candidates will be able to manage a casualty who is injured or becomes ill at work until medical services arrive or can be reached.The 1 day course is ideal for smaller workplaces and those with a lower risk.

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:Understand

• the role of the first-aider• the importance of preventing cross-infection• the need for recording incidents and actions• use of available equipment

Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergencyAdminister

• first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)• cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)• first aid to a casualty who is choking• first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding• first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock

Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, burns and scalds).

In addition to the Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus, students on a First Aid at Work course should be able to:Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to:

• Bones (including suspected spinal injuries)• Muscles and joints• Chest injuries• Sudden poisoning

Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid for:

• Heart attack• Angina• Stroke• Epilepsy• Asthma• Diabetes• Anaphylactic shock

The Forestry Commission recommends that people working in the

forestry, haulage, harvesting industries for example, should also cover

the following topics on their first aid course because of the hazardous

nature of their work.

•Severe bleeding (i.e. chainsaw injury)•Crush injury•Hypothermia•Lyme Disease

The 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid course will equip candidates working within childcare with a sound knowledge of child and infant first aid. Candidates will also be able to recognise common childhood conditions and carry out the correct treatment until medical professionals arrive or can be reached. The course meets the requirements of Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage for staff who need paediatric first aid training. The shorter (6 hour) course, whilst not recognised by Ofsted or EYFS, is highly recommended for staff such as Teaching Assistants, Lunchtime Staff or anyone with an interest in first aid for children.

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.Assess an emergency situation safely.Provide first aid for an infant and a child:

• who is who is unconscious• who is unresponsive and not breathing • who is choking• with minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bumps and bruises,

small splinters and nose bleeds

Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child suffering from:

• Shock• Anaphylaxis

In addition to the one day course, students on a Paediatric First Aid course should be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child with injuries to bones, joints and muscles, including head and spinal injuries.You will understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness, such as:

• sickle cell anaemia• diabetes• asthma • meningitis and septicaemia• febrile convulsions

You will also learn how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold, or has sustained an electric shock. Burns or scalds, poisoning, bites and stings, conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose, are also covered.

swimmers and cyclists. Martial arts champions, weight lifters and even ballet dancers have all been

helped by our medics.Sports First Aid will give you all the necessary skills to deal with a whole range of sporting injuries. Anyone

involved in sporting activities - from referees and coaches to players should attend. This course can be custom built to suit your sport, giving you the course

most suitable for your needs.

This Beyond First Aid Award is a training course which is designed for those who are involved in the outdoor and activity based environments that require a first aid qualification in addition to providing the knowledge and skills to operate in these different and often challenging environments.

This qualification is aimed at anyone who requires a first aid qualification which covers additional training for working in the outdoor and activity based sectors. Examples include:• Outdoor instructors e.g. hill walking, kayaking, climbing, etc.• Duke of Edinburgh Award Leaders and Assessors • Scout/Guide leaders • Mountain/Walking leaders

This course has been designed for those interested in knowing more about the body’s basic functions. We’ll explore the anatomy and physiology underlying the five vital signs.

This 3 hour course provides essential training in Basic Life Support, following the latest Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines. It is intended for health care workers who are required to carry out annual update training in Basic Life Support.The course covers:

• Treatment of an unconscious casualty• CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)• Heart Attacks and Cardiac Arrest• Choking• Introduction to, and Operation of AEDs

This 2 hour course provides that little bit of peace of mind for new Mums and Dads.

Usually delivered to small groups, this course covers some of those basic everyday knocks and scrapes

that children have a habit of getting, but it also shows you what to do in a life threatening emergency
