For more than 50 years, Red Tracton’s restaurants have been synonymous with

excellence—superb food, huge portions and impeccable service.

A decorated World War II veteran, Red Tracton opened the first of his restaurants

on La Cienega Drive in Los Angeles, California in 1956. Tracton’s on La Cienega,

became an institution frequented by film celebrities and other colorful characters

of the day for more than 30 years. During the 1960s and 1970s, Red owned

and operated five locations, including a Tracton’s at the Farmer’s Market in

Los Angeles. In 1979, Red opened Tracton’s in the heart of the San Fernando

Valley. Ten years later he moved to the current location in North San Diego County.

Now in its present location for more than 25 years, Tracton’s continues to thrive

by maintaining Red’s tradition of serving huge portions of the finest quality

Eastern Prime Beef, enormous lobster tails, football-sized baked potatoes, huge

desserts and a myriad of other culinary delights.

Although most patrons would have trouble finishing the entrée alone,

Tracton’s also offers large mouth-watering salads, excellent soups, appetizers and desserts. An extensive wine list

offers something for even the most discriminating wine connoisseur.

Red Tracton’s location directly across from the Del Mar Racetrack & Fairgrounds draws both local patrons and celebri-

ties for both the dining room and the scene at its full bar and lively piano bar.

In keeping with Red Tracton’s philanthropic legacy, Tracton’s continues to support charities such as Nice Guys of

San Diego, Casa de Amparo, Walden Family Service and Rady Children’s Hospital.

Red Tracton was given a Congressional Medal of Honor by the Congress of

the United States of America in 1969 for his bravery and assistance in solving

a kidnapping case in which a child’s life was in jeopardy. The case was solved

largely as a result of Tracton’s quick thinking and willingness to put his life in

danger on behalf of the child. His actions are listed in the Congressional Record,

and he received a personal letter of thanks from J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the

Federal Bureau of Investigation at the time. The letter hangs proudly in the foyer

of the restaurant.

Red Tracton’s daughter Tracy Tracton, her son Mason and many long-term loyal

employees continue to uphold the traditions of excellence world-renowned

service and superiority of quality started by her father back in the 1950s.
