With two separate meeting times, you’re sure to be able to make it to our adult book club. We meet at 2 and 7 pm on the third Monday of every month at the Country Morning Café across the street from the library. We’re not a formal group of literary critics, so don’t be intimidated. Most of us just like to read a good book. Stop by the Information Services desk in the lower level to get each month’s book selection.

April 17th - Sun, Stone, and Shadows by Jorge F. Hernandez - The Big Read 2016

This anthology presents a collection of twenty stories of extraordinary quality, written by the finest Mexican authors born during the first half of the twentieth century. Through these pages, readers will tour the real and the unreal, the faithfully rendered and the fantastic, as well as the tangible past of Mexican history. They will also travel between urban reflections on everyday life and intimate inventions that set Mexico apart from others landscapes, other cultures, and other literatures.

May 15th - Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline

Jake Buckman's relationship with his sixteen-year-old son Ryan is not an easy one, so at the urging of his loving wife, Pam, Jake goes alone to pick up Ryan at their suburban movie theater. On the way home, Ryan asks to drive on a deserted road, and Jake sees it as a chance to make a connection. However, what starts as a father-son bonding

opportunity instantly turns into a nightmare. Tragedy strikes, and with Ryan's entire future hanging in the balance, Jake is forced to make a split-second decision that plunges them both into a world of guilt and lies. Without ever meaning to,

Jake and Ryan find themselves living under the crushing weight of their secret, which threatens to tear their family to shreds and ruin them all.

June 19th - The Wedding Gift by Marlen Suyapa Bodden

In 1852, when prestigious Alabama plantation owner Cornelius Allen gives his daughter Clarissa's hand in marriage, she takes with her a gift: Sarah―her slave and her half-sister. Raised by an educated mother, Clarissa is not the proper Southern belle she appears to be, with ambitions of loving whom she chooses. Sarah equally hides behind the façade of being a docile house slave as she plots to escape. Both women bring these tumultuous secrets and desires with them to their new home, igniting events that spiral into a tale beyond what you ever imagined possible.

As we have in the years past, Kewanee Public Library District does have tax forms available at the library. However,

due to the government, both state and federal, encouraging everyone to file their taxes electronically, we

received fewer forms and less of each form.

The state of Illinois has provided us with paper copies of Illinois Tax Return forms as well as the Schedule ICR and its

instructions. The state of Illinois does also provide the opportunity to file electronically for free using MyTax Illinois,

available at tax.illinois.gov.

For federal forms, we have only 1040s, 1040As, and 1040EZs. We do have instructions for each of those forms,

however quantities are limited. You may view or download any of the federal forms, which we may not have, at

www.irs.gov/formspubs or ask at the Information Services desk to have them printed for you at $.10 per page.

We are unable to reorder any forms and are limited to the one shipment that we receive, so please plan

accordingly.

Staff Pick Book Review:

The Planet Thieves is the first novel in a new Junior High level sci-fi series by Dan Krokos. The story begins as thirteen-year-old

Mason Stark and his fellow cadets from the Academy for Earth Space Command board the SS Egypt on a routine training

trip.

Things quickly go off course when the ship is attacked by an alien race known as the Tremist. The Tremist overtake the SS

Egypt, leaving the captain and crew dead, injured, or taken prisoner.

As Mason and the other cadets are left alone to fight for control of their ship, they find the reason the Tremist chose to

attack. The SS Egypt carries a secret weapon that can wipe out the Earth.

The Planet Thieves is a fast paced journey filled with exciting action scenes as we find out if Mason can save

Upcoming Youth Programs

So you’re an adult who likes to read Young Adult

books, who cares? Do not be ashamed. You are not

alone. Embrace it. Stop by the library on March 31st

at 6 pm for a brief informational meeting on our

hope-to-be newly formed Young Adult Book Club for

Adults. We’ll discuss when the best time to meet

might be and maybe toss a few titles to read around.

If you can’t be there, fear not, stop by the Circulation

desk and let us know that you’re interested and what

time you’d be most available to meet. And if you

have a book that you’re dying to talk to someone

about, let us know that too.
