With a member base in excess 1600 there is no doubt a
lot of organising that goes into running a non for profit
organisation like Sorrento SLSC. I encourage both new
and existing members who may consider they have the
time and enthusiasm to offer assistance to one of the
many areas of our club. Please contact Kerry our
Administration Manager on
We are fortunate at Sorrento SLSC to have an alignment
with outside sporting groups wishing to utilise our
premises which generates healthy revenue for our club.
Commencing this Saturday we will be hosting the “Jack
the Wagtail” event. Saturday 22nd November we will
host the Indian Ocean Paddlers Fremantle to Sorrento
event. The following weekend we again will host the
“Doctor” paddling event from Rottnest to Sorrento.
There will be approximately 250 paddlers from all over
the world competing which we will be feeding and
providing refreshments. We will require a band of
volunteers for this weekend so please register your
availability with Kerry at the office.
A club as one is a club of strength!

The 2015 Aussies Touring Team are asking for donations for a Christmas raffle.
Gifts of any type - Cosmetics, Accessories, Vouchers, Chocolates, Wines, Condiments etc.
We will be collecting donations from now, selling tickets during December and drawing the winner
on Saturday morning 20th December.
Thank you, the touring team appreciates your kindness,

Team Manager
It was a big weekend for IRBs covering the Seniors
Board and Swim Round 3 competition hosted at
Sorrento, Nipper’s Water Safety, Patrol and a
Combined Rescue Scenario with WA Police. My
sincere thanks to the drivers and crew who took
part pulling together as an impressive unit to
prepare six IRB’s, set up arenas, provide water
safety and pack all down – well done team
awesome job!
Marine Search and Rescue: Last week Sorrento
representatives attended a three day Marine
Search and Rescue Course, conducted by the
WA Police Marine Search and Rescue Unit. The
course was held at Surf House culminated in a
practical on-water scenario on Sunday 9th
November. The course involved Water Police, Surf
Communications, Sea Rescue, Helicopter
Services, Surf Emergency Response, Jet Skis and
IRB’s. The simulated on-water rescue drew on the
skills and knowledge gained through the course
relating to the management of water resources
and search plan execution.
The rescue exercise departed Hillarys Marina with Sorrento launching a number of Jet Skis and
IRB’s. The search area extended from Sorrento South Groyne through to Trigg Island. Highlighting
the expertise, knowledge and value that each service offers. Sorrento on looks the sheer volume
of Surf Life Saving representatives with 5 Jet Skis and 8 IRBs in Sorrento was nothing short of
impressive.

our engines to optimum performance. Please report irregularities or issues in the IRB Report Log
Book and where a resolution is required quickly or you are tagging out ring me on 0432 051 399 or

I want to take this opportunity to send out a huge THANK YOU to all the people who came down
to help set up and pack away the Senior Pre-Season carnival on Sunday. With special mention to
Murray Geneff for all his hard work before, during and after and also the Competition Committee,
who make my life easier. Thanks to the Boaties who always come down and help. Also a big
THANK YOU To the IRB Team who were pushed to their limits yesterday with so many events taking
place. The organisation and the way you all worked together was a credit to your team.
Please make sure you have registered for: Round 3 Ironman Series at Scarborough and Round 2
Surf Boat Series at Trigg on the 16th November, with registrations closing on Wednesday the 12th of

More Helpers Required: On Sundays after Nippers everybody leaves. Except for our hard working

ready to be put in the water and some of the last to finish are the volunteer IRB Drivers, these guys
come down to help on a Sunday morning and some don’t even have Nippers in the club and as
such I am asking for more volunteers to help with the clean-up. If you can help please see me or
one of the Beach Boys (In Fluro Orange shirts).

Patrols: Please bring sun protection, plenty of water and food while on your patrol.
Communications: Did you know that the WA water police are able to listen in on surf lifesaving
radio communications and if needed can contact you as a patrolling member direct if needed
however on most cases they will go through surf com or the duty officer.
Surf Com: Patrol captains need to sign on and off a patrol. Surf com record all radio
communications and statistics, which is the reason why we have to report all statistics from patrols.
The stats can then be used for grants to support all lifesaving clubs, with such things as equipment
such as the ATV from surf Australia and the PDF from water safety shirts etc.
This is the reason that we need to be careful when on the radio
Club Patrol Officer: The patrol officer is in charge of patrols this includes scheduling patrols;
ensuring patrols have the correct qualified members on it and lots more.
Liaison Officer: If you have a challenge or any questions the liaison officer may be able to help
you as the liaison officer is there to help the patrol officer.
First Aid Officer: The first aid officer is there to help recruit first aid qualified people and pass that
person’s name onto the patrol officer so they can be allocated on patrol. On top of that they
order all first aid supplies and equipment.
Duty Officer: Surf Lifesaving WA has a duty officer that can be called to help with major incidents
you may have heard on the radio at times.
Did you know the following?...
- Patrol captains are in charge of the patrol
- Vice captains help the patrol captain then take over in the absence of the patrol captain
- IRB drivers and crew look after the IRB
- ARTC is there to take care of the checking of the oxygen bag and if no first aider they will
also check the first aid bags.
- Bronze holders are responsible for water safety rescues and the welfare of the community
basically first emergency responders.
- SRC will learn from the bronze holders and the help the community.
- The First aid officer is responsible for all first aid incidents and first aid bags.
You can see you are all important on patrol so look after each other.
Swim between the flags!

Bogan Bingo: The Bogans came out of the woodwork last Friday night and man did they cut loose.
With the Air guitar show down, best Bogan fashion and the most interesting dance off I have ever
seen, not to mention the actual Bingo, all combined for an outrageous night of fun and hilarity.
This sell out event was undoubtedly a huge success for the first social occasion on Sorrento's
calendar.
Thanks to the Social committee for giving all your inner Bogans a chance to surface, the Bar staff
who worked extremely hard with the help of volunteer Kevin Kelly who gave up his whole night to
help keep you all refreshed, Krystal for doing a sausage sizzle for the bogans who came down
early and Murray Geneff, Mick Saunders and Peter Watkins for making it possible to have a stage
for the night. Without our wonderful volunteers we could not run these events so successfully.
Anyone who left a platter behind at this event can you please collect it from the kitchen ASAP.
Coming up next will be the first Sunday Sundowner for the season. Sunday 23rd of November 4 –
8pm, we plan to rock you with the band the ‘Pedestrian’ who do a big selection of many genres
of music. Mark this down in your calendar as it will be a wonderful way to get the family together
on a Sunday afternoon with your friends at surf club. Please bring your plate of nibbles and Krystal
will also be cooking up a storm on the BBQ. At this Sundowner we will congratulate all the Premier
Cup athletes as this series winds up, and recognise other athletes including our World's
Competitors.
Come and enjoy the sunset at the best location on the coast.
