Our emotional responses are what make us human. Why should I be ashamed to share that with you? I wont apologize for crying, and you shouldnt either. As a community called togeth- er by Gods love and Gods grace; what better gift can we give one another than show- ing up as our true selves? So come with honesty, bring all of your emotions and all you thats not quite finished, polished, or honed. All of it is acceptable to bring to worship, because all of you is welcome before a God who loves you, just as you are. In Christ, Pastor Erika

Dear Bethel friends, When I was growing up, my mom played the organ for church. My mom is a little tender-hearted and prone to “leak”, as she says. Especially during hymns. I have memories of watching her play the organ, wiping the tears from her face or her eyes in between verses, her fingers still flying over the keys, her feet still busy pushing pedals as her heart just couldn’t keep all she was feeling inside. My mom passed on this “tender– hearted” trait to me, and I am prone to get a little weepy at times myself. When I was on internship, my parents came to hear me preach my Christmas Day sermon. It wasn’t a particularly sad sermon. I wasn’t real-ly talking about anything tender. But I remember towards the end of my sermon—now also remember, I am still an amateur preacher at this point-- I look up from my manuscript and there is my mother. Weeping in the pew. Not for any particular rea-son expect that she was proud of her daughter. And before I knew it, I couldn’t read my manuscript for the tears were in my eyes too. So I stopped preaching. Let out a huge sigh and said, out loud, “Mother, stop it. You’re distracting me.” I wiped my face and finished my sermon. My supervisor thought this was hilarious. And he got it on tape. Which, of course, I then had to watch and re-watch about 15 times. There are times when I am leading worship when emotions overwhelm me and I tear up. Sometimes its because I am sad. But not always. Sometimes its because I feel convicted to say something hard and I am scared. Sometimes it’s a phrase in a hymn or a piece of Scripture I believe to my bones, and it just comes out my eyes. Some-times its because I see one of you in the pews cry. As my dear friend says, “I hate to have people cry alone.” Sometimes its because I am proud, or overwhelmed, or tired or stressed… or just because I am just so grateful. I used to be ashamed of being this kind of tender-hearted. I don’t feel that way any-more. I think being vulnerable in front of others and showing them your true depth of emotions is brave. Our emotional responses are what make us human. Why should I be ashamed to share that with you? I won’t apologize for crying, and you shouldn’t either. As a community called togeth-er by God’s love and God’s grace; what better gift can we give one another than show-ing up as our true selves? So come with honesty, bring all of your emotions and all you that’s not quite finished, polished, or honed. All of it is acceptable to bring to worship, because all of you is welcome before a God who loves you, just as you are. In Christ, Pastor Erika

The Stewardship Board would like to thank you for your participation in our Fall Campaign. Please re-member to turn in your Commitment Cards and Time & Talent brochures. The Commitment cards help in the budget planning process. The Time and Talent brochure helps the church to identify areas where

you may volunteer to BE.THE.Love.

Continue to reflect on our verse from Galatians 5: 22-23 “By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is no law against

such things. “

What seeds are you sowing as you go throughout you day? We pray that we are truly being mindful of “sewing seeds” that produce the Fruits of the Spirit.
