INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen; as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there your will see Him. Behold, I have told your.”
Matthew 28:5-7
From the Pastor’s Desk…
2018 Theme: “Making Disciples and Developing Leaders” BBC: Making Disciples -- Building Hope, Building Relationships, and Changing Lives Our vision: To be the premiere church in Westchester County; a beacon of hope to individuals, families, the community, and the world Foundational Scripture: “The Great Commission” – Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 11:26 Emphasis for Second Quarter: “Discipleship & Development”
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! For the Lord is good, His mercy
is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations. Can you imagine the feel-
ings and emotions of the women and the disciples on that first Easter morning?
Shock, Amazement, and Joy!!! Imagine having all your dreams and hopes shat-
tered as a result of the events of Good Friday and the Crucifixion. Jesus has been
hurriedly buried and though sad, the women make their way early in the morning
to the tomb to properly anoint His body. Their chief concern is who would roll the
stone away? Imagine their shock, and earthquake and the stone has been rolled
away. Imagine their amazement, and angel of the Lord greets them with the good
news, “He is risen!” Imagine their joy as they quickly run to tell his disciples, “He
is risen!” Let us remember, reflect, and rejoice! Because He lives we can face to-
morrow. Because He lives all our fears are gone. And life is worth living just be-
cause He lives. He is risen…Happy Easter…Celebrate…Because Our Savior
lives!!!
We celebrate the close of a tremendous first quarter of the church program
year. God continues to truly bless us as we seek to do his will and make transitions
and adjustments to more effectively do ministry in the 21st century. We celebrate
the Men’s Ministry under the leadership of Brother Mills, President and Brother
McIver, Men’s Day Chairman as we observed our Annual Men’s Day on the third
Sunday in March. We resumed our monthly food distribution ministry with the
Westchester County Mobile Food Bank. We served over 80 families. We joined
with children, youth, and other religious organizations and agencies in the “March
For Our Lives” event protesting mass shootings and gun violence in our schools.
We continue to solicit the support of parents and adult volunteers as we strive to
provide ministry to our children and youth through the nursery, children’s church,
teen night, and other ministries to support and develop our children, youth, and
their families. We invite you if you have not done so to discover your area of spir-
itual gifting and passion to serve the Lord through becoming involved in one of the
many ministries of our church. We also invite you to attend our unified bible
study, “Believe”. Cont’d p. 8

Missionaries on the Move!
The month of March was a busy time for the Missionary Ministry of Bethel. We worked diligently through the 6th Annual Women’s Global Prayer Guide in conjunction with W.I.S.E. (Women In Service Everywhere) of the Lott Carey Missionary Convention. The prayer guide navigated its readers through 31 days of prayer for women and girls around the world. It was a special time to pray to God in a shared effort with other women around the world. We thank God for the men of Lott Carey who joined us in
this effort. All active missionaries of Bethel were actively involved in the prayer guide through their designated weeks to pray. The Cap-tains, groups, and highlighted weeks to serve through prayer were:
Captain – Sis. Carol Robinson – March 1-7 Trustee Abraham, Sis. H. Calloway, Sis. Brice, Sis. B. Johnson, Sis. D. Hudson, Sis. J. Allen, Sis. P. Coleman and Sis. D. Had-ley.
Captain - Rev. Virginia Mebane-Young - March 8 – 14 Sis. A. Hadley, Sis. J. Tate, Bro. C. Tate, Sis. F. Watson, Sis. B. Andralliski, Sis. E. Johnson, Sis. L. Anderson, and Sis. L. Ben-nett.
Captain – Deaconess Sylvia Latimer – March 15 – 21 Sis. T. Pine, Sis. L. Bowers, Sis. L. Louissaint, Sis. E. Hudson, Deaconess G. Ridgway, Sis. V.Johnson-Taylor, Bro. S. Taylor, and Sis. S. Franklin.
Captain – Sis. Joann Edwards – March 22 – 28 Sis. N. Bowser, Sis. R. Keys, Deacon D. R. Smith, Dr. Smith, Sis. E. Watson, Sis. P. Blackwell, Sis. M. Basnight, and Sis. L. Hunter.
Captain – Sis. Stephanie Ward – March 29 – 31 Sis. S. Brown, Sis. E. Johnson, Sis. L. Burwell, Deacon R. Abraham, Sis. T. Williams, Sis. J. Shuler, Sis. A. Bowman, and Sis. B. Keller.
Since March is Women’s History Month, we viewed this as a special opportunity to raise our concerns of injustice and op-pression against vulnerable women and girls. The theme for the 2018 National Women’s History project is: “Nevertheless She Persisted”. This year’s honorees includes three African-American women: Susan Burton, Pauli Murray (deceased), and Loretta J. Ross. (pictures included) We praise God for the achievements of these women!
Each group was asked to meet at the end of their week to discuss the countries lifted in prayer and whether or not there was a common thread. The groups ended their weeks by: meeting at Bethel, meeting in homes, or teleconferences. The first two groups were able to give their reports and findings at our regular meeting on March 18, 2018. The groups agreed that there were common threads throughout the prayers for their countries.
Immediately after our meeting, we boarded the bus to attend an annual Missionary Day at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. The following were in attendance: Sheryl Franklin, Lisa Bennett, Janet Allen, Joann Edwards, Pam Coleman, Victo-ria Johnson-Taylor, Shirley Johnson, Emory Watson, Carol Robinson, Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith, and Deac. Dewitt Roy Smith.
…And that’s our Missionaries on the Move for the month of March. We look forward to sharing more with you as we move into the month of April.
Have a blessed Easter!!

Community Recognition On Saturday, March 17, 2018, the Sons of Calvary recognized three women of our community at an evening dinner held in their banquet hall. They were: Judge Delores Brathwaite, Lena Anderson, and Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith. They were honored for their dedication, devotion, and distinction for Community En-gagement and the Advancement of Our Community. The occasion was so appropriately planned and executed by the men to honor these women during Women’s History month.
* Judge Delores Brathwaite serves in The Greenburgh Town Justice System She grew up in Yonkers, NY * Lena Anderson - serves as President of the White Plains/Greenburgh Chapter of The NAACP. She grew up in White Plains, NY. She is an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. * Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith - serves as an Associate Minister of Bethel Baptist Church. She grew up in
Raleigh, NC.
After receiving the above award, my remarks to the Sons of Calvary and the audience was: “As a woman of God, my plight is to serve God in the spirit of excellence. It is never about working to receive accolades or awards. I pray to God for my eyes to always be open and aware of anyone who is in need of a ministering touch.”
We were grateful to the Sons of Calvary for their foresight in recognizing women of distinction within the community.

THESE WOMEN ARE NOT BEHIND BARS BUT ARE IN PRISON!!
Kairos Outside NYC, chartered in 2009 is the local chapter
of Kairos Prison Ministry International, designed for
women impacted by incarceration. Someone in their life is
or was in prison. In many ways the families are “doing
time” right along with the incarcerated. This ministry is
also for women, that were themselves previously incarcerated. Mass Incarceration,
is described as the new Jim Crow, from 1970 to 2005 the number of
inmates increased 700%. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in
the world.
Each year Kairos Outside NYC offers two Weekend Retreats, for women.
These women referred to as “Guest’s” have an opportunity to get to
know other’s that share similar struggles and concerns. The last Retreat
Weekend took place in November and thirty five (35) women participat-
ed. Guest’s are in some way transformed by participating in this Kairos
Weekend. The goal of this ministry is to address the Guest’s spiritual
needs by providing a loving, safe, and supportive environment. JoAnn
Edwards, Sharon Gilham, Yvonne Harris, Janice Robinson, Dr. Frozine Reece-
Smith and Stephanie Ward are members of Bethel Baptist Church and this
Kairos ministry.
It cost approximately $15,000 to carry out this Retreat. ALL expenses are
covered by donations, consequently Guest’s do not pay a fee. If you would like to
make a monetary donation or attend the next Retreat which will take place May 4-
6, 2018, please speak to Pastor Williamson or Sharon Gilham…… sha-
[email protected]. Donations can also be made to: Kairos Outside NYC,
P.O. Box One, Larchmont, N.Y. 10538 Website: www.kairosoutsidenyc.org /
This ministry greatly needs volunteers, referred to as “Angels” that
can help load supplies onto our truck, in Pelham N.Y. on May 4th
& 6th.

“They are our future”
“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY” Author: Reginald Heber Composer: John B. Dykes
(1783 – 1826) (1823 – 1876)
“…Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,
which was, and is, and is to come” Revelations 4:8b (KJV).
The New National Baptist Hymnal is the official hymnbook of our Baptist
affiliation. It is published by the National Baptist Publishing Board in
Nashville, Tennessee. It is filled with inspiring hymns, Negro spirituals,
calls to worship, scriptural readings, responsive readings, meditations,
chants, The Articles of Faith, and benedictions.
The hymn chosen for this month is the first hymn of our hymnbook:
“Holy, Holy, Holy”. It was written by Reginald Heber and set to music by
John B. Dykes. It was specifically written for its liturgical (a particular
order or form of public service laid down by a Church) use on Trinity Sun-
day, which occurs eight weeks after Easter. The emphasis of this Sunday’s
service is to reaffirm the doctrine of the triune Godhead: God the Father,
God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The truth of three Persons, equal
and eternal with each other is clearly taught throughout God’s Word and
yet, the actual word, “trinity”, is not found in the Scriptures. It is based on
what we believe and know! AMEN!
“Holy, Holy, Holy” is a profound affirmation of our faith and belief in
God. Reginald Heber’s wife chose this hymn as one of his favorites, after
his untimely death in India at the age of forty-three.
The Christian has been called to serve, not to sit down. We have so much
work to do.
In 1 Peter 2:9a the Word says: “…But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an holy nation,…”(KJV). Holiness separates us from the
world. We must be consecrated to the service of the Lord.
When you open the hymnbook, you won’t have to search for “Holy, Holy,
Holy”. It is hymn # 1. The ending of verses one and four are exactly the
same and the repetition of the words should help us to focus on the trinitar-
ian philosophy of our faith.
“…God in three Persons, blessed trinity.”

Cont’d from p.1
This month in addition to our Easter Sunday worship and activities, the church will participate in the Empire
Baptist State Congress of Christian Education. Seven delegates will attend the Congress this year and attend classes and
worship sessions. I will give my first address as the dean for the congress and a bus will transport members of Bethel to
support. Congratulations to Sis. Kyla Harding. She will receive the Ruth Banks Scholarship Award from the Central
Hudson Baptist Association during the congress session. Through worship, teaching, fellowship, and serving we will
grow as individuals and as a congregation to be the premier church in Westchester County. We must maintain our focus
upon making disciples and developing leaders. Remember our motto: “We’re all in this together, being the church God
has called us to be. To God be the glory!
Peace and blessings,
Dr. Edward O. Williamson, Pastor-Teacher
