scripture for the quarter

Jesus, My Everything

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuf-fering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, tem-perance: against such there is no law .” Galatians 5:22-23

Jesus is our fruit of the spirit. God gave us Jesus to provide everything we will ever need to gain eternal life. Jesus characterized God's love by attributes that only Jesus fully displayed while on earth, yes all! We are being tested today to see his greatness and our faith. We may run out of a lot of things, but we will never run out of the love of Jesus.

The more we study who Jesus is, the more we will know who we are. Love came in the shape of a cross, He loves us so much that He paid the price for all.

When Satan attempts to overwhelm you, remind him that you overwhelmingly conquer all things through Jesus Christ. Sometimes when things appear to be falling apart, they may be actually falling into place. The worse off the crisis is, the harder and faster many run to Him and He is there.

If Jesus is powerful enough to escort us to heaven, He is powerful enough to take care of us on earth, hold on, our change is coming.

from the pastor's desk

As we become a blessing to others we set ourselves up to be blessed. God doesn't always call the equipped, but He always equips the called.

Possibly, when our crisis hits rock bottom, all may know Jesus is the rock at the bottom, for He is my rock and my salvation. He is my everything. I pray we share the fruit of the Spirit and all His characteristics during this time of devastation.

With the Love of God, Rev. Dr. Andrew L. Smith Sr. Pastor

Greetings my brothers and sisters,

God Is Good! He has given us another opportunity to bring you the Spring Quarter newsletter. Our theme is: “Jesus: Everything to Me”! We will also discuss the spring season, Resurrection Sunday, and Mother’s Day.

The spring season brings with it new beginnings. As I sit at my computer writing this editorial, spring is only one day away. I searched the Internet looking for the date of the first day of spring for this year. To my sur-prise, an article came up stating that this is the first time in 124 years that spring begins on March 19, 2020. March 20 or 21 are the two dates in March when spring usually begins. I found this information very interesting. I look forward to enjoying the budding flowers and the many changes that springs brings our way each year.

This year, Resurrection Sunday will be celebrated on April 12th. When we think of our theme: “Jesus: Everything to Me”, Resurrection Sunday is one of the reasons that the statement is true! We read about the resurrection of our savior in Matthew 28:5-6 which reads: “And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Jesus died for our sins. He laid down His life that we could have life more abundant down here and eternal life. But He did not remain dead, He rose up from the grave! What a blessing for all!

When I think of blessings, mothers come to mind. We have a special day set aside each year to honor our mothers, Mother’s Day. We should not wait until the second Sunday of May to honor our mothers. Exodus 20:12 commands us to: “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”

the editor's corner

Take some time out on Mother’s Day to honor our mothers who are still living, to think about the love of our mothers who have passed away and to honor mothers who may not be our biological moms but have touched and enriched our lives.

Jesus Christ has touched and enriched all of our lives. Our theme for this quarter, “Jesus: Everything to Me”, begins when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior! Why is Jesus everything to me? Because without Him, I would have nothing and I would be nothing without Jesus Christ in my life. There is a song that the choir sings, the words go like this: “Without God, I would be nothing, without Him, I would fail. Without Him, my life would be rugged, like a ship without a sail”. With all of the madness that is going on in our world today, Christ really has to be my every-thing. My life would truly be rugged without Him. Bad news is in every direction you look, hopelessness seems to be everywhere but because Jesus is my everything, I will not despair! Jeremiah 17:7 says: “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.” I have hope in spite of what is going on around me because I can say, “Jesus: Everything to Me”!

As always it is our desire that this newsletter meets the needs of our family. We pray that it informs, inspires, edu-cates, encourages and entertains you. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to serve you better. We pray that God will continue to bless and keep you in His care. And remember to say; “Jesus: Everything to Me”!

Yours in Christ,Sister Janice Stutts

The overall theme for this Spring Quarter is Messianic Prophecy. Messianic meaning related to the Messiah (Jesus). Prophecy is a prediction or forecast. We will study Scriptures that will let us see Jesus’ characteris-tics and power before and during His earthly ministry.

Unit I: The theme for this unit is The Coming One. Remember we’re studying subjects that point us to Christ. I encourage you to ask questions. For example, how is Jesus a Prophet Like Moses? We must Look and Live but, to whom? Is Jesus A Son of David or A Priest Like Melchizedek? Then allow the Holy Spirit to bring the answers through the study and teaching.

Unit II: The theme for this unit is The Promised Saviour. We have studied now let’s identify The Suffering Servant, that appears to be The Lowly King. Is He The One Revealed in Scripture? Who has the Victory of the Lord’s Anointed? Is He The Chief Cornerstone?

Unit III: The theme for this unit is The Eternal King. There’s only one eternal king but, He is also known as The Righteous Branch. Who is One King over All and yes, A Light for the Gentiles. But, hold on The Redeemer will come and take his place on The King’s Eternal Throne! Hallelujah!!!!

hebrew education - for such a time as thisThen Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. Esther 4:13-15

Brothers and Sisters, every quarter I will bring you lessons from some of the various topics I study that I think will be of interest to you. Also please feel free to sugest or ask me questions about something you would like for me to look into.Sis. Michelle Norwood

This quarter let’s talk a little about the current situation we are in. Not just the “virus”, but rather, our condition before it got here. I will parallel it a little with the history of a couple of our ancestors, Mordecai and Esther

When GOD had Babylon carry the Hebrews to Babylon because they we were not keeping his commandments, He told us we would only be there 70 years and after that He would return us back to our homeland.

So why is Esther and Mordecai and a number of Hebrews still in Babylon? Simple they got too comfortable. They had built a life for themselves that they simply did not want to let go of. If you read the parts of the book of Esther, that they so conveniently took out, you will read her prayer in which she admits, “we have served other gods".

Now they find themselves in a predicament where Haaman, because of his bitter jealousy of Mordecai, wants to commit genocide against all the Hebrews in the 127 provinces belonging to the King.

Mordecai brings the matter to Queen Esther, but she is under-standably a little hesitant, because this could cost her, her life. Mordecai tells her, don’t think you are safe just because you are the Queen. If she did not act then God would send deliver-ance another way. So Queen Esther, makes a request for all the Hebrews to fast with her for three days, she will then put her life in Yahweh’s hand and go before the King.

So what parallels, do we see in us, Yahweh's people.

We as a people have forgotten our first love. Some of us have left Yahweh entirely and are currently serving other GODs. While some of us have taken the lukewarm approach and mixed Him in with the gods of this world. We as a people are being targeted more than ever before. Their agenda is genocide, but Yahweh has other plans.

So, how have done this? Let’s ask ourselves the hard questions.

Holy DaysIs it ok to take the Holy days of Yahweh, put a slight spin on them, change the dates and then turn around and celebrate them in His house? Is it ok for our children to go on easter egg hunts,

have baskets as long as they know its “really about” Yahshua? What is wrong with calling the Holy Day what it really is, Pass-over and point them to Yahshua our Passover Lamb?

The same with His birth, is it ok, to introduce a big man with a red suit and give him the same attributes of the Most High? Is Yahweh all knowing, all seeing and everywhere at once or is it santa claus, IT CAN’T BE BOTH! We won’t even talk about the date only because we need to get over this hurdle first.

True WorshipWhy do we think it’s ok to mix “worldly music” into our hearts, as long as we get a little gospel in? We complain that we can’t only listen to the gospel, but we are perfectly fine with listening to worldly music non-stop and not even hear a gospel song for days. They are called Idols for a reason. What is it about; The Temptations, Beyonce, BB King, Angela Aguilar, Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana, Nikki Minaj, Pavarotti etc., that makes us forget or put Yahweh on the back burner. Why do we think we can worship both?

CelebrationsReally we will spend a lot of money to go out into the desert to shake our rear ends and pay homage to the gods of this world, but complain about assemblies that teach us the will of Yahweh. Was it not the children of Israel who first worshipped in the desert when they came out of Egypt? How did we man-age to turn this around?

I know these examples only scratch the surface, but I only have so much space. And yes, all of the above also goes for TV shows, movies, etc.…

We have abandoned Yahweh and gone after the gods of this world. I believe strongly that Yahweh is calling His people back to Him, and So I beg you. Return to Him now. Fast and pray, for who knows, if you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalm 2: 11-12

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sab-bath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

And after this Joseph of Ari-mathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

There laid they Jesus therefore be-cause of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

John 19:15-42

YAHSHUA OUR PASSOVER

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

And, behold, there was a great earth-quake: for the angel of the Lord de-scended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, be-hold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.

And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,

Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.

So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw him, they wor-shipped him: but some doubted.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all na-tions, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

athletes foot

What causes athlete’s foot?Athlete’s foot occurs when the tinea fungus grows on the feet. You can catch the fungus through direct contact with an infected person, or by touching surfaces contaminated with the fungus. The fungus thrives in warm, moist envi-ronments. It’s commonly found in showers, on locker room floors, and around swimming pools.

Who is at risk for athlete’s foot?Anyone can get athlete’s foot, but certain behaviors increase your risk. Factors that increase your risk of get-ting athlete’s foot include:• Visiting public places barefoot,• Locker rooms, showers, and swimming pools• Sharing socks, shoes, or towels with an infected person• Wearing tight, closed-toe shoes• Keeping your feet wet for long periods of time• Having sweaty feet• Having a minor skin or nail injury on your foot

What are the symptoms of athlete’s foot? There are many possible symptoms of athlete’s foot, which include:• Itching, stinging, and burning between your toes or on soles of your feet• Blisters on your feet that itch• Cracking and peeling skin on your feet, most commonly between your toes and on your soles• Dry skin on your soles or sides of your feet• Raw skin on your feet• Discolored, thick, and crumbly toenails• Toenails that pull away from the nail bed

How is athlete’s foot treated?Athlete’s foot can often be treated with over-the-counter topical antifungal medications. If OTC meds don’t treat your infection, your doctor may prescribe topical or oral prescription-strength antifungal medications. Your doctor may also recommend home treatments to help clear up the infection.

People everywhere, every day have to deal with many different diseases and health problems. No matter if you're relatively healthy, showing symptoms of sickness, or have a chronic disease, you should have constant communication with your doctor.

According to our scriptures there are some things that are just not good for us to eat. I know we llike to use Acts 10 as a reason to eat anything we want. But when we really look at the scripture we need to ask ourselves, "was Yahweh talking about food or people? The focus of the text is about Cornelius, a gentile, being accepted into the family of GOD. But regardles of how we feel about our "bacon, lobster, shrimp and catfish, because of what they eat are still not the cleanest animals. I would encourage each of us to eat less unclean and more clean animals and watch how much your general health changes. Below is a list of what Yahweh called clean and unclean.

did you know?

Where do you work? SFMTA Sign Shop Sustainable Streets Division

What is the title of your position? Senior Storekeeper

What type of education/training did you receive for your position? I had to recertify my Forklift credentials. I was trained on the 4i Spear Shops System which is used for inventory control. I was also trained on our Purchase Order processing in which, I have to ask for quotes, and fill out PRF’s (Purchase Request Forms).

Where did you receive your education/training? Most of the training was done at our facility at 1508 Ban-croft Ave. The forklift training was done at our SFMTA light rail yard on 26th Street off 3rd St.

What was the length of your education/training? Forklift certification is a 16 hour or 2 day course on In-dustrial Trucks. The basics of the Spear Shops System 7 days. PO processing was at my own pace which took 14 days.

When did you begin your career? With Somar Electric as a PT Storekeeper which was added to my title in early 2000’s.

Why did you choose this field? As a kid there was a leg-end that I helped stock an Auto Store on Geneva. Then I was introduced to the field by Somar Electric. So, after its closing I applied, was tested, interviewed and was hired by DPW. Then after a lay off in 2016, I reapplied for Assistant Storekeeper and applied for Senior Storekeeper. I tested for the Senior Storekeeper and ranked No. 2 for the Fire Dept. When the need arose for SFMTA SSD Sign

Shop, my name was pulled from the list. I was interviewed and hired in January 2018. Any interesting tips, words of wisdom, inspiration or encouraging words that you would like to share with your LBMBC family? Keep God first in belief and service and things will work out. I’ve been a Security Guard, Bank Teller, Warehouse Shipping Clerk, Delivery Driver, etc. had some lay-offs and times of uncertainty. But, through it all every lay-off God blessed me with a better position.

Deacon Chris Norwood

Where do you work? Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts,

What is the title of your position? Financial Aid Advisor

What type of education/training did you re-ceive for your position? I was trained to handle/disburse loans, including Federal and 3rd party. As well as accounting, tax training, customer service, formulas for Excel, FASFA applications & organiz-ing payment plans.

Where did you receive your education/training? I received my training with my company Gurnick Academy.

What was the length of your education/train-ing? I was able to learn and be promoted within 3 months.

When did you begin your career? July 1, 2019

Why did you choose this field? I chose this field because I love working with others who need guid-ance with school. When it comes to education, it is important that each person is aware of what they are signing up for. I also love working with num-bers, math can be exciting, when you know how to work with them. I also like giving great customer service. When I hear feed back from students about how I made it easier for them financially, it makes me feel like I’m doing something right. See-ing our future Nurses and Doctors succeed, makes it all worth it. And, when they tell me thank you it warms my heart.

Are there any interesting tips, words of wis-dom, inspiration or encouragement that you would like to share with your LBMBC family? One thing I can say is prayer changes things. I prayed for a better job so I can support my family. I prayed to find a job that I can be successful in, but most importantly to be happy in my career. When I wasn’t happy or getting the treatment I deserved or the pay, I prayed and put myself into gear to look for something that was going to make me success-ful in something I like to do. I know I’m not done being successful, but this was a start. And if I can do it as a single mom, anyone can. We need our village to become the amazing successful people we are today. Without my village and that includes my church family as well, I wouldn’t be the person, I am today. But, most importantly I thank God.

Exciting New Ministry at Little Bethany

We would like to clear up a misunderstanding from our Winter 2020 Newsletter concerning our newest ministry, the LBMBC Home and Foreign Mission Ministry. It is one ministry with two parts and is under the Umbrella of the Home and Foreign District Asso-ciation where Little Bethany has its membership. Sis. Jacqueline Chavez is the Captain of the ministry and Sis. Janice Stutts is Co-Captain. The members include: Bro. Freddie Chavez, First Lady Sis. Patricia Smith, Sis. Barbara Gillespie, Sis. Carla Stutts and Bro. Mark Campbell. We will keep you informed of our activities. Thank you.

Just a reminder: the FYI (For Your Information) section of the newsletter is available for any member to use to share information such as announcements. We are thankful to share with you in this quarter some of the accomplishment and changes going on with our church family. Please feel free to send us information you would like to share.
