Expressions of Interest are sought from suitable candidates for the position of Assistant Principal, Instructional Leadership, Literacy and Numeracy, at the schools listed above, under Early Action for Success Phase 2. Teachers, executive and current Instructional Leaders are encouraged to consider submitting an Expression of Interest.
Early Action for Success Phase 2 is the NSW Department of Education’s implementation of the NSW Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2017-2020.
The strategy combines high quality leadership, a focus on individual students and early intervention to ensure K-2 students at risk of not achieving expected outcomes in literacy or numeracy are identified and receive additional support. A feature of the strategy is Instructional Leadership, Literacy and Numeracy positions to work with K-2 teachers and students.
Period of appointment: Up to 20 December 2019 with the possibility of a one year extension.
Note: The successful applicant will retain right of return to their substantive school and position level for a period of three years only. A successful applicant who is a current Instructional Leader will not retain right of return once they have worked outside of their substantive school for a period of 3 years or more.
Application DetailsApplications should be no longer than four A4 pages and should include:
applicant’s contact details response to the position criteria
the names, position and contact details of two referees, one of whom must be the applicant’s current manager. For school-based staff, this is the Principal; for Principals, this is the Director, Public Schools NSW; for non-school based teaching staff, this is the current line manager.
Applicants need to state that their Expression of Interest is supported by their substantive Principal.
Candidates will be required to participate in an interview as a component of the EOI process.

Schools intending to use school funding to increase their Instructional Leadership allocation are indicated. Prospective applicants are advised to contact those schools’ Principals for further information.

Position Criteria for Assistant Principal, Instructional Leadership, Literacy and Numeracy
Proven successful experience in instructional leadership that has improved learning outcomes for K-2 students in literacy and numeracy.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, implementing successful change processes that has resulted in improved learning outcomes for K-2 students.
Demonstrated deep understanding of current research in effective instructional leadership and effective high quality teaching in early literacy and numeracy.
Demonstrated experience in the provision of high quality differentiated professional learning that has enhanced teacher capacity in improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for K-2 students.
Demonstrated capacity to work alongside teachers to both model and improve teaching and assessment skills in early literacy and numeracy.
Outstanding communication skills with the demonstrated capacity to contribute to building and strengthening a collaborative learning culture in a school.
Capacity to build staff expertise to lead literacy and numeracy teaching and learning.
