Antique Bottle Collector by Caleigh

S ixteen-year-old Caleigh, a member of the Hudson Valley Bottle Club, wants

to hear from collectors of antique bottles

on how they got started in the hobby.

It started for her when she visited Ferncliff Forest in

Rhinebeck, New York.

My dad and I decided to take a hike that wonderful day to the Ferncliff fire tower. I was really scared when we were climbing up and down the stairs. On our way back to the car, we saw some old house foundations so we decided to take a look. I went over to the corner where

they were and started to dig.

I was digging for quite some time, or so I thought was a long time, (probably around 5 minutes), and there I saw it, The Rieges California Perfume bottle.

The first bottle I had ever found!

I was so excited, I jumped up and ran over to my dad while saying, ‘Dad, Dad, look at it!’ The big smile on his

face amazed me even more.

I am a former member of the Raleigh (N.C.) Bottle Club. I am so passionate about this hobby that I decided to write a book on it, not about the value or origin of the bottles, but the stories behind the collectors on how they got

started in this hobby.

I was digging for

quite some time, or

so I thought was a

long time, probably

around 5 minutes,

and there I saw it:

Have you seen all the positive signs going up all around the school? Where are they coming from? I wonder who is doing this. How has it made you feel? Have you received a positive note or smile? A student reported that a smile note has “made my day.” Ms Fishberg said that she “tries to use positive behaviors in the class to build self esteem.” She also said that “if you feel good you will do better at what you are doing.” That is how people are react-ing to the smiles and notes popping

up around BETA.

In the gigantic website of YouTube there are people who play games while doing commentary and put it on YouTube for many people to see, those people are called Let’s Players. They get thousands of views a day and are much admired. Sometimes they get so popular that people start to know them even when they don’t watch their videos. Also they can get paid once they start meeting the certain criteria. Once they do Google’s AdSense program starts to put ads in their videos and they start making revenue. Don’t think being a

Let’s Player is easy; you have to continually put videos on YouTube or else you won’t be making that money and you will start losing

fans if you don’t update for a long time. It is a big responsibility and I’m sure the pressure can be hard on them. There are many good things if you can take the heat, They get admired all around the

world, fans flock to see their videos, and the best part is that you could get money by playing video games and talking about stuff. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! Sadly the money part is hard to get and the pressure would be too much for me and lots of oth-ers. Still, their contributions to YouTube are

On Friday October 12th Mr. Blair and Mr. Coleman and

their classes walked over the Hudson Bridge. The sky

was dark as if it was going to rain. The people that went

on the trip were Stevon, Ryan, Shane, Jessica, Silvia,

Billy, Nello, Grenisha, James, James B, Mr. Blair, Mr.

Coleman, Ms. Kern, and Maria Martinez Jacobson, and

Mr. Venette. The kids tried to throw rocks over the

bridge to see which one would land in the water first.

On the other side of the river we saw freight trains. Here

is a quick history of the bridge. In 1868 an article in the

Poughkeepsie Journal

introduced the idea of building a railroad bridge across

the Hudson. Then in 1889 trains started crossing and at

that time it was the longest bridge in the world. Then,

during World War II, the bridge carried troops to be

shipped overseas. At its height, 3,500 train cars crossed

the bridge on a daily basis. Then on October 3, 2009, the

Walkway Over the Hudson State Park opened to the

public. Now the walkway over the Hudson is the

world’s longest pedestrian bridge.

TTTT here are lots of horrifying things out in the world when the fog comes out Soon all hell will appear.

Scary, horrifying, scared, terrifying, No, creepy. There the fog sits above the ground without any clouds. Some trees may show, the colors of the leaves may glow, but no snow. In the fog there lies a secret where so mysteriously the birds keep flying into and won’t come back for 10 minutes to that one tree. There are no worms out on the ground so the birds decide to fly around like they rule a town, but there are barely any leaves on the ground. What a scary town. Will this fog ever leave? No. This isn’t Halloween, the fog would just sit there probably hiding a secret, and that doesn’t lie behind any trees. The creepy thing is that there are no birds in any trees where usually they’ll be, but today is just straight up creepy. Those trees don’t have any colors except a gray cover, grayer than a rainy day, but today is just a scary creepy foggy day. Scary, horrifying, scared, terrifying, there is not one sound of a cricket, maybe they’re r scared of the fog, now that all the colors are gone except for that gray fog, my god. Well in the next four hours this day will remain the same except at night the birds are hiding where that secret can’t be seen but only by them. What could that secret be? It’s not the colors of the leaves on the trees, now that’s just scary.

Finally 9:06 am the trees are seen with their colorful leaves.

Now that the fog is moving away, will that secret stay or move away, what a

weird day.

SOUR CREAM TOPPING: Combine 1 1/2 cups sour cream, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in medium bowl. After pie has baked 30 minutes at 350ºF, spread evenly over top. Bake 10 minutes.

STREUSEL TOPPING: Combine 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 1/2 cup flour in medium bowl. Cut in 1/4 cup cold butter until mix-ture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in 1/4 cup chopped nuts. After pie has baked 30 minutes at 350ºF, sprinkle evenly over top. Bake an additional 10 minutes.

If I were…

If I were a star, I would shine the night sky as bright as I can.

If I were the sun, I would shine for the people who are cold.

If I were a heart, I would fill the heart with love.

If I were a book, I would want to read over and over again.

If I were a little girl, I would love my family so much

Wait! I am a little girl, and I do love my family!

Poem by Amber, (age 10) submitted by Jaelee

My top favorites in art are graffiti, calligraphy, self por-traits, and sculpting. Last school year for P.B.I.S, I worked on a mural at first I was clueless about what I was going to draw, so a few days after I came across a quote “When you come to the end of your rope, tie and knock and hang on.” With a rope going through the words, with a hand at the end, I finished the mural on May 15, the day of the P.B.I.S. Over the summer I decided to come up with a Betta fish sculpture for the school. I made the fish out of poster boards, paper mache’, and newspaper. The fish is

going to be on a plaque.

Dream, dream, dreaming the night away sweet dreams end my day. But nightmares, nightmares are what I found. Then I fell underground. As I fell underground I heard a weeping sound. The sound came from The little Willow. Then my head hit a Pillow, on the ground. Then I found a golden locket which I put in my Pocket. Then, I woke up from that strange dream and what did I find, But a Locket, a golden locket.

Dreams Bring Amazing Things To Wonderful, Thankful, Patient People

Green Day Uno review by Alisia M

After the release of their highly successful 21st Century Breakdown, Green Day has outdone themselves again. Their newest album, Uno, is a blend of alternative rock and punk rock. Their first release, Oh Love, was released secretly at a show in 2011 but then was fully released on August 14, 2012, with positive reviews saying that the song was a lighter tone than American Idiot and 21st century Break-down and even said that Green Day fans would not be disappointed with the album. As the song reached more air time they began to release other tracks from Uno and received the same praise, and soon it was time for the new album to be released, many were ready after their performance at the I heart radio festival in Vegas. The album was a smash and released on September 24 in the United Kingdom and September 25 In the United States. Even though it was number two in the Billboard 200, to critics it was definitely a hit. In summary, in my view I would say that this album is worth the listen in a way we have been waiting for an album since 21st Century Breakdown and the band did not fail to deliver. They are working two more albums based on it, calling it a trilogy and I hope it is

as good as this album.
