Arctic’s Access Panel range offers a low cost, high quality solution to provide protected openings in ceilings and walls for access to building services. The injection molded slim profile produces a lightweight solution, enabling an easy installation. Produced from UV stable ABS, the door panel is held closed by a snap friction catch. The hinged door can be opened with a flathead screwdriver, opposite the hinge edge. Fastened into position with a suitable glue, the panel can be over-painted to blend with the surrounding surface.

With sizes ranging from 150mm to 560mm, Arctic Access Panels are a high quality, robust solution suitable for everyday use.

Building Regulations Part L and BS7593 specify that all boiler installations require the system to be fully flushed to remove flux residue, debris and contaminants that could cause premature system failure and this must be carried out prior to installing the new boiler. It is recommended to use a cleansing product as part of this process and final treatment with a BUILDCERT approved corrosion inhibitor.

Part of Arctic’s comprehensive Central Heating water treatment range, the CH1 inhibitor is BUILDCERT approved and meets all the requirements of BS7593. One 500ml bottle treats 120 litres of system water which is approximately 12 radiator panels.

FIRE RATED ACCESS PANELSOur range of high quality, precision welded one-hour fire rated steel access panels tested to B.S.476: Part 22:1987 provide access into all types of wall and ceiling construction voids.The panels consist of 1.0mm powder coated zintec steel with a slim profile, producing a lightweight, robust panel where access to building services is required.

The metal frame holds a flush metal door through simple concealed hinges and is held closed with a budget lock. Secure key lockable versions available.

Pipe freezing products can save Installers a lot of time and effort when carrying out everyday installations and routine maintenance work. Having the confidence to freeze pipes is something that comes with time and a bit of hands-on experience.

Pipe freezing is not a new concept and although not an exact science, today’s pipe freezing products are simpler and more effective than ever before. Arctic, pioneers of pipe freezing products for over 40 years, have a range of freezing products to cater for every job; Arctic Spray for up to 28mm pipes, Polar Professional for up to 61mm pipes and Arctic Electric for up to 88mm pipes.

Q: How long does the freeze take / last?A: Depending on the pipe size / material and ambient temperature. With the Polar Professional range, the freeze will take about 90 seconds to form and will last between 30 and 40 minutes. With Arctic Spray, the freeze will take about 5 minutes to form and last between 45 and 60 minutes.

Q: Can you freeze pipes that have inhibitor in them?A: Yes. Corrosion Inhibitor doesn’t affect the performance of pipe freezing products.

Q: I think the system contains anti-freeze. Will this stop a freezer kit working?A: The recommended concentration of anti freeze for most properties is 25% and this level offers protection to around -10°C. Arctic pipe freezing kits operate at around -55°C so will still freeze pipes that contain anti-freeze.

Q: How big are the freezing jackets? Space is always restricted.A: In the Polar Professional range, the smallest jacket is 50mm wide and can freeze up to 15mm pipes. In the disposable Arctic Spray range, the jackets are 180mm wide.

Q: I’ve heard stories about ice-plugs blowing out and flooding houses, why should I trust a freezing kit?A: When a pipe is frozen, as long as the wall of the pipe is kept below freezing point, the ice-plug will not blow out. Our kits are freeze tested on pipes in excess of 16 bar (230 PSI) pressure. All Arctic Spray and Polar systems have insulated jackets which help keep the pipe cool when frozen. If in any doubt, we recommend spraying a bit more refrigerant in to help keep the pipe below freezing point.

Q: Don’t pipes split / burst when they freeze?A: Not when they are frozen in a controlled way. Domestic pipes can split in the winter if they freeze, but this is caused by a build up of pressure caused by sporadic freezing within a length of pipe. Freezer kits produce an ice-plug in a very specific place and the pressure caused by the expansion of the water at the freezing point is easily dissipated into the rest of the heating system.

Not every freezing kit is suitable for every application, so we have put together some commonly asked questions to help guide you through the decision making process.

Q: Can freezing kits be used on Mains / Lead / Plastic / Barrier Pipe.A: Yes. Our freezing kits are developed to hold back pressures in excess of 16 bar (230 PSI) this is five times greater than a domestic mains water supply. The freezing kits will also freeze MDPE, Lead, Barrel, Galvanised, underfloor heating pipes and of course, Copper.

Q: If the system is sludged up, will the pipes still freeze?A: Yes. Sludge will freeze in the same way as water.
