Weeds & Roses A type of coaching technique

)As I am grading, it is like watching film. I am noticing things done well and repeated errors. I am noticing individual performance but mostly my team’s performance. I jot down notes. I write down examples. I tell them that the weeds and roses belong to them. (There is tension in the air!)

)Before our next “game” (essay), we go over our game tape– our Weeds & Roses. Students take notes.

)I pass back papers. I have select students read their roses. We do follow-up and practice on these issues.

)We come up with a game plan. Our three areas of focus are: ___________, _____________, and _______________.

)We execute on game day and I grade with our Weeds and Roses in mind.
