1 Create a New Target Tier

To create the new Tier, complete the following steps:

1. Log into HiCommand Suite

2. Click on Resources, then on Tiers and finally All Tiers

3. Under Storage Systems, choose the subsystem you will be working with and then click the Create Tier button

4. In the Create Tier applet, verify that the correct storage system is selected

5. Beside Name: enter a descriptive name for this tier of storage

Special Note: Keep in mind that the Tier you are creating here is the target devices you will push data to, so an

example name might be EPM12345_Target

6. Click Add Volumes and then in the Volumes window select the volumes you’d like to write to (the targets) for this

migration, then click the Add button

Special Note: Hold the CTRL key down to select multiple volumes

7. Click the OK button to accept the volumes listed and go back to the main Create Tier window

8. Click OK to complete the creation of the new Tier

2 Create the Migration Group

To create the Group, complete the following steps:

1. Click on Actions then select Migrate Volumes

2. Under Storage Domains choose the subsystem you will be using for this data move

3. Click the Migration Groups tab and then click Create MG

4. In the Create MG applet, beside Name: enter a descriptive name for this migration group

Special Note: Keep in mind that the MG you are creating here is the source devices you will pull data from, so an

example name might be EPM12345_Source

5. Next, click the Add Volumes button

3 Create the Migration Group Cont’d

6. In the Add Volumes window, verify that “Show entries matching” is set to All

7. Under Attribute: select a condition that may help you narrow down the listing of available volumes, for example

you may search by a Label or even by an LDEV range

8. Click the Search button, then select the volumes you want to include in this migration and lastly make certain the

box beside Allow moving volumes from other Migration Groups is checked

9. Click OK and then OK again to create this Migration Group

4 Create the HTSM Migration Task

To create the task, complete the following steps:

1. Under the Migration Groups tab, click the Migrate Migration Group icon

2. In the Migrate MG screen select the Source Migration Group (this is the group created earlier in this document

under Create the Migration Group)

3. Next highlight the Storage Tier (also created earlier in this document under Create Tier)

4. Click Check Compatibility

5. Verify you have the sufficient number of Unallocated Volumes under Configuration

6. Also under Migration Pairs: verify the volumes in the Source and Target columns

7. Enter your email or a distribution email address to be notified of the status of the migration under Notification Email:

8. Place a check beside Discard zero data after migration, but leave all other fields unchecked

9. Click OK (which will create the Migration Task)

5 Execute and Monitor the Task

To execute and monitor the progress of the task, complete the following steps:

1. If not already done, close off all sub windows back to the main HiCommand Suite page

2. Click the Tasks tab and then under Summary, click on HTSM Tasks

3. Within Search under Creation Date, change the From field to today’s date and the To field to tomorrows date and

then click the Search button

4. Place a check beside the HTSM task just created, and then click the Execute Tasks button

5. Click Close to close the informational window

6. To periodically check the status of the migration, click on the Task ID and then the Refresh button to retrieve the

very latest details of the task
