The votes have been cast. The results have been tallied. Nothing is left to do now

but present the awards. Leader Publications’ 2014

Best of the Best readers’ choice awards highlights the top businesses in our communities in perhaps the most meaningful way possible: As nominated by you — our readers and citizens — through taking the time to show you care about the community by allowing your voices to be heard.

Thousands of votes were cast for favorite businesses in more than 100 different categories. You will see some familiar names and some new ones as well.

We applaud all those businesses that are recognized in this distinguished contest.

For all of the businesses recognized on this list customer service and satisfaction is paramount. They work hard to achieve it and are exemplary corporate citizens.

Many of the races were close, often with just a few votes separating first from third place. The top 10 in terms of overall votes was a veritable Who’s Who of the region.

The Wonderland Theater received the most overall votes with 135 in the category of Best Movie Theater.

Pizza Transit received the 2nd most with 62 in Best Pizza. Wing’s Etc.

grabbed the 3rd most with 59 for Best Wings. El Amigo Pepe

was 4th with 51 for Best Mexican Restaurant. Local grocery stores fared well with Martin’s 5th with 50 votes in Best Grocery Store and Shel ton’s getting 49 votes for Best Farmers Market, earning sixth place for total votes.

Lowery’s finished in 7th place with 44 votes for Best

Meat Market. The Niles-Buchanan YMCA got 43 votes

for Best Fitness Center to finish in 8th place. The Niles Library got 41

votes in its category for the 9th most votes. Tied for 10th place — 40 each — were Zeke’s for Best Restaurant in Dowagiac and Silver Beach for Best Beach.

The most important thing to take away is that there are no losers. Anyone recognized in the Best of the Best readers’ choice awards is doing lots of things right and customers are noticing. Keep up the good work.
