Based on the results of the 2010 NYLJ Ranking Survey, Judge DiBlasi has been named the top mediator in New York State.

Hon. John DiBlasi, former Justice, New York State Supreme Court, holds an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell in the fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Litigation - a distinction given to those who possess the highest ethical standards and professional ability. He is proud to be associated exclusively with National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM).

John DiBlasi has thirty years of experience in civil litigation as a jurist and counsel representing plaintiffs and defendants. He possesses a unique understanding of the ADR process, both from the standpoint of an attorney acting as a client advocate, and as a judge who has settled thousands of cases. His prac-tice is now devoted full-time to ADR.

John DiBlasi's philosophy for successful dispute resolution begins with preparation. Every brief submitted by counsel is carefully reviewed and advance consideration is given to the positions of the parties. His goal is to create an environment that engenders respect and communication, with an emphasis on civility. While John DiBlasi takes great pride in his high success rate in settling cases at the initial mediation, when that outcome is not achieved, he is dedicated to working with coun-sel personally to make sure the case is ultimately resolved.

Judge DiBlasi was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York at the age of 39. He was also the first Presiding Justice of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court, Westchester County, where he started the first ADR program used by this Court.

From his experience as a practicing attorney, judge and full-time panel member at NAM, he has a deep understanding of matters involving business, commercial, construction, employment, insurance, legal and medical malpractice, personal injury, and products liability.

Dear Law Journal Community,

Welcome to the First Annual New York Law Journal Rankings, a new program, designed to let you, the New York legal community, tell us which vendors are the best to work with.

We want to know which products and services are most helpful in grappling with your daily challenges. Whether its prepar-ing for a trial, running your firm or managing your money, the vendors listed in this report are the companies who you told us were the best. In some cases firms set themselves apart by producing a great product, while in others, it was superior customer service that helped them win the day.

The Rankings are not a scientific survey of the marketplace but rather purely democratic. We asked you to vote for your favorites – and did you ever. With over 2,000 votes, the response exceeded our expectations.The voting was conducted via online ballot, compiled by the sales and marketing teams of the New York Law Journal. Readers were notified of the ballot through direct emails and online advertisements linking to the ballot across ALM’s network of websites. The ballot consisted of 42 categories encompassing the areas of Technology, Research, Accounting, Insurance, Financial Services, Litigation Support, Education Recruiting and Staffing. In total, over 350 firms were listed on the official online ballot and voters were also given the option of writing in any firms not see listed; almost 400 firms received votes via the write-in option. Ultimately, our goal was to make the voting as inclusive as possible.For the most part we succeeded, however a few rookie mistakes did occur.

In the Best Court Reporting & Deposition Service category we missed Veritext LLC who you wrote-in in such large num-bers that they were able to rank in the Top Three – a definite oversight on our part. In the Best ADR category we had a significant error in that a major player in the space, National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) was left off the ballot. This was not discovered until less than two weeks prior to the close of voting. The good folks at NAM graciously accepted our offer to include them at that late date, but unfortunately, because of our mistake, there is no way of knowing what could have been. In a condensed period they finished an impressive second place, I would like to note that the Individual Media-tor category did not include a simple online ballot, but rather, all candidates relied on write-in votes. In that category, NAM mediators accounted for five of the Top Ten slots as voted by you. Impressive indeed. We therefore congratulate JAMS on their impressive win for Best ADR and we also salute NAM for their overwhelming success in the Individual Mediator category. Given that you voted in the ADR categories more than any other we know how important these firms are to your success and we look forward to an even more inclusive ballot next year.

Please note that we only allowed legitimate end users to vote. We took great pains to ensure the voting was fair. Any non-attorney or legal professionals (or anyone who we could not validate was a legitimate end user) vote was disqualified.
