NEWSLETTER - TERM 4 WEEK 6 - 2015
Remembrance Day Service
Our students will once again be involved in the service at the Berrima village memorial on
Wednesday. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. and will be led by our Year 6 School
Leaders.
As an additional aspect to the Centenary Activities there is also an initiative to recreate
something that occurred directly after WW1. School children in Australia raised funds to
send to Poziers in France that had been liberated by Australian troops during the war. Set
out below are some details of the project and this is a wonderful gesture of on-going good
will between the two countries. On Wednesday we will ask the children to bring along a
gold coin that will be donated to this memorable cause.

November is "My Highlands Home" month! This month we have a few exciting things going on that celebrate our children's creativity and raise funds for our school. Mark Sunday November 22nd (our market day) in your diary: it will be the My Highlands Home exhibition and awards ceremony. Every entrant will have at least one photo on display, and the seven winners will have their shots enlarged. Come and see how gorgeous they ALL are! Our beautiful calendars, full of the kids' wonderful images and words, will be back from the printer this week - they look great and will make perfect Christmas gifts. More on how you can buy very soon. One of our competition judges, renowned local photographer Tony Sheffield (from Highlife maga-zine), has kindly offered one of his framed works to be raffled off. Tickets and more info will be sent out later this week. As always, we appreciate the support of the school community - thank you :) Laney and Caroline

Kindergarten Families
A gentle reminder for our planned fairy day for this Wednesday 11 November.
All the children are very excited about dressing up to celebrate our learning
and participate in the planned activities.
For the day the children can dress up as a Fairy, Pixie or Elf and need to bring
along a very small plate of healthy fairy food for our fairy feast. We welcome
you to join us at any time of the day.
In the morning we will be crafting, after recess we will have our fairy feast
and begin our movie Fern Gully.
Kind regards
Mrs Young-Whitford

Thank you to the families who took the time to read our very important Student Welfare Policy.
STUDENT WELFARE Remembrance Day: At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice -suspension of fighting, in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender. November 11, is also Origami Day. Sadako Sasaki 7.1.43 – 25.10.55 was a Japanese girl who was two years old when the American atomic bomb “Little Boy” was dropped on August 6, 1945, near her home next to the Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako is remembered through the book “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes”, her story of endeavouring to make a thou-sand origami cranes before her death from leukaemia caused by radiation exposure through the atomic explosion. The crane is an international symbol of peace & to this day is a symbol of innocent victims of war. In 1958 a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane was unveiled in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. At the foot of the statue is a plaque that reads: "This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the world." Origami Day is all about promoting the art of paper folding and showcasing incredible creations. Friday, Novemeber 13 – World Kindness Day- is about little gestures of kindness, helping oth-ers can restore a sense of humanity. Kindness Day was born when a collection of humanitarian groups came together on November 13, 1997 and made a “Declaration of Kindness”. Likewise, on Kindness Day everyone is encouraged to make a similar declaration. Donating books, food or clothes to your local community is a great way to celebrate. However, pledging to commit just one act of kindness is no less worthwhile: Politeness, good manners, sharing & paying compli-ments are all acts of kindness. However you decide to celebrate remember that the best thing about Kindness Day is that it doesn’t cost a thing, and we get to continue it every other day…keep the good vibes rolling wher-ever we go! Peace & Kindness…Great attributes to build into our characters & model to our children to en-sure we are building a better world for the future. Netty Dubokovich. Chaplain…SpeakLife
