Throughout 2015 we spent time listening and discerning God’s vision for Bermuda Hundred UMC!

This journey led us to our Charge Conference and Visioning Sermon Series in November where we shared how our Vision tells us who we are, what we do, how we do it, where, and most importantly why! Our Vision tells us that “We are disciples of Jesus Christ, All in and here for good, as a beacon of God's light sent to transform the world because Jesus has changed our lives!”

Not only did we spend time in visioning in 2015, but we also became “Awakened to God’s Dream” in our Advent Sermon Series! Advent gave us an opportunity to wake up to the presence of Christ in our lives!

As we begin to celebrate Bermuda Hundred UMC’s 60th Anniversary and Move Froward in God’s Mission and Vision for our church, we will also explore how we can dream and vision in our own lives.

What is our own mission statement?

How does it connect with God’s dream for our church and God’s dream for the world?

What does God have in store for you?

What is God’s dream for you?

How can you respond to God’s claim upon your life?

Our Dare to Dream Sermon Series kicks off our new year with the opportunity to explore this and so much more for your life and relationship with Christ!

Our Mission is what we exists to do: We are here to Reach out and make disciples of Jesus Christ, Grow disciples, Strengthen Families, Engage in mission, and Build strong, sustainable leadership for the kingdom of God!

I believe this series is a great way to begin the New Year, to reach each of us with deeper ways to grow in our faith! As you create a personal mission statement, I pray you may be strengthened as a family and develop a mission statement for your own family. My hope is this this study will invite you to engage your faith in daring to dream about the possibilities of a life fully lived in God’s grace and love.

January 3- “Dare to Dream” January 10th –“Discover Your Identity” January 17th- “Your Burning Bush” January 24th - “What Can We Lose?” January 31st- “What’s in Your Hand” February– 7th- “The Power of Perseverance”

We have awoken to God’s dream of Jesus Christ throughout advent!

Let’s dare to Dream what God has for you!

In God’s Love, Pastor Beth

On Wednesday, February 15, 1956, the formation of a new church was initiated by 19 members at a special

service of prayer and dedication. By Sunday, May 13, 1956, when Charter Day was held, there were 69 Charter

Members and 16 Charter Preparatory members.

Those original members said yes to a new thing God was doing! The dream God began then continues today!

We keep saying yes to God’s dream to make disciples and transform the world!

Each Wednesday we will have a fellowship dinner at 6:30 pm followed by worship at 7:30 pm with

preaching by one of our former pastors. This will be a time to remember, celebrate, and to be inspired so that

we will keep saying yes to God’s dreams and vision for our church!

Please mark your calendar to come participate in this time of celebration and revival!

Earn. Save. Give. - BHUMC 2015 Stewardship Program & Commitment Cards Dear BHUMC, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!! The Stewardship team hopes that everyone has a great holiday season, is able to enjoy time with family and remembers the amazing meaning of the season, in celebrating the birth of Christ. This is the time of year for gift giving, looking back at the past, and laying a plan and setting goals for the future. In regards to Stewardship at BHUMC, it is also that time of year.

GIVING - We have received MANY great gifts of time, effort and money from various sources and it is amazing to witness the sharing that occurs within our church every month, but especially in December. We have made tremendous progress towards our stewardship targets this year and we hope to be able to compile the results of the year very soon. Once we do, we will share that info with you in praise and celebration to-gether.

PLANNING & GOALS – Goals and commitments are established with the dedicated completion of our commitment cards each year and we have received a strong response from those that have returned their cards for 2016 – thank you all, it is great to see this positive response! For those that have not returned their 2016 commitment cards – IT’S NOT TOO LATE; whether you are still prayerfully considering your commitment, or its still on your to-do list, or you have just not considered it in the past…..whatever the reason – We need you; every bit counts and we pray that you would join us in our plan, goal and commitment of giving for 2016. Please return your commitment cards.

We are making a difference this year, AGAIN and the stewardship results for each contributor have been tremendous – everything given, by everyone who gave is an inspiration of God’s love through sharing to the world – THANK YOU! Please help us keep it going in 2016 and let’s reach new heights of sharing next year.

Thank you to all and In God’s Grace,

Your stewardship committee Dave Steinbraker, Dorothy Mooney, Ann McNinch, Charles Woodward and Bill Talley V

United Methodist Women

Thank you to everyone who gave to the UMW Mitten Tree. We were able to collect: 21 boys' briefs, 27 girls' panties, 13 boys' hats, 17 girls' hats, 14 pairs of boys' gloves, 32 pairs of girls' gloves, 13 scarves, 16 pairs of boys' socks, 30 pairs of girls' socks. All items were given to students in grades K-5 at Enon Elementary, Elizabeth Scott Elementary, Marguerite Christian Elementary, and Harry E. James Elementary. The UMW appreciates your support of this mission project each year.

Also, because of your generosity at the Craft Show, the church was able to provide Christmas gifts for eight children and their mothers. All of these children enjoyed a wonderful Christmas morning with toys and clothes. We look forward to providing "Santa" for more children in 2016.

As you know, all women of the church are members of the UMW and we certainly want to invite you to become active members during 2016. We have many wonderful projects that we enjoy fun and fellowship as we work together to help children, youth and women in our church, community and the world.

We are changing our meeting schedule for 2016 in hopes that we can make it easier for you to attend the meetings. There will be no meetings in January and February and we will start meeting again in March for our famous Charter Night dinner and silent auction. The date for the meeting is March 21st, 6:30 pm. Mark your calendar now. There will be more details about the meeting closer to the time.

Start saving your yard sale items for our upcoming yard sale April 23rd in the Fellowship Hall. We will be accepting items on Friday, April 22nd. Remember, only spring and summer items - no winter items or TV sets.

Thank you again for all you do to support the United Methodist Women. It is only through your help that we can be successful as we all work together for God's children.

Doris Morefield, UMW President

January 2016 Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church

The Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Men wish you a Happy New Year! We have had a very successful year and we couldn’t do our work without your support, thank you. Enjoy the moments this time of year provides, for family and friends, and for those less fortunate than us. Try to focus on Bethlehem more than Santa, and remember to be thankful for all that has been given to you.

Charles Woodard-UMM President

The United Methodist Men (“UMM”) meet at 6:30 pm on the third Tuesday of each month at the River’s Bend Grill in the River’s Bend Shopping Center.

United Methodist Men

The church would like to thank the Crafty Ladies and Men for providing 4 families with Christmas gifts. There were 8 children from Enon, Elizabeth Scott, and Marguerite Christian Elementary schools that received toys, clothes and shoes! The parents were given gifts as well. The money from the Craft Show funded this project. If you bought something know that your money helped to provide a wonderful Christmas for these families!

The mittens, hats, scarves and underwear from the UMW’s Mitten Tree was distributed to the three schools we partner with and one school in Hopewell. Thanks to everyone who participated!

The food boxes that were donated to the church were given out to local families in our community and several were given to the schools. What a blessing for our church to receive this food and to be able to help so many people!

With the help of St. Ann’s Our Daily Food Pantry several families from the schools that we partner with received Christmas bags filled with food. We are grateful to St. Ann’s for being able to give these families a little help during this Christmas season.

I am looking forward to a wonderful New Year in Missions. I pray that you will join me in doing amazing things through Jesus Christ this year!

Blessings, Ann McNinch, Missions Chair

Technology Fund

Edna Sherrill is heading up the effort to upgrade our sound system. These improvements will allow all of us to hear the words and music better in our church areas. It will also allow personal hearing devices for anyone needing them. You’ll hear more about this in the future, but consider a donation to the Technology Fund to support this effort. - Charles Woodard
