SafetyRecipient of two National Safety Council Awards for 2019 safety achievements.

Environmental CommitmentlThe Berkshire plant meets all applicable environmental

permits and standards and uses clean-burning natural gas, along with effective control technology, to ensure low emissions and environmentally responsible operations.

lThe Berkshire plant participates in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (“RGGI”) a cooperative effort among the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia to cap and reduce power sector carbon dioxide (CO

2) emissions. Since

its adoption in 2009, the Berkshire facility has acquired and surrendered over 4.3 million CO

2 allowances1 via its

participation in the RGGI program.

lThe plant also participates in the Massachusetts CO2 state

program (310 CMR 7.74: Reducing CO2 Emissions from

Electricity Generating Facilities). This state program sets a declining limit on aggregate CO

2 emissions from 24 large

fossil fuel-fired power plants, from 9.15 million metric tons of CO

2 in 2018 down to 1.8 in 2050. Under this program,

which began in 2018, the Berkshire facility has surrendered nearly 700K CO

2 allowances1.

1A CO2 allowance represents a limited authorization to emit one short ton or metric ton (as defined by the respective programs) of CO2 from a regulated source, as issued by a participating state

lBerkshire Power Company purchases tree saplings for planting in the community on Arbor Day each year and makes annual contributions to various local charitable organizations and schools.

lEmployees at Berkshire are committed to supporting local community and charitable projects.

lThe plant sponsors an annual art contest with local elementary schools each year. The winning student’s design becomes the plant’s christmas card, and the winning school receives a donation for new art supplies.
