OverviewIn this forward-leaning major, Music Business

students will gain a solid foundation and develop a

plan for success in the key verticals that all music

industry entrepreneurs and prospective employees

have to focus on: publishing, licensing, management,

touring, marketing, entrepreneurship, and law. The

program will also detail the most pressing issues facing

the music industry today, from alternative approaches

to copyright, the rise of mobile music consumption,

the shift towards streaming music, crowdfunding

and alternative approaches to generating revenue,

and much more. It will properly prepare students

for the opportunities that are available in the new

music business.

OverviewThe music industry is undergoing enormous change,

and as a result, musicians increasingly need knowledge

of, and skills in, a number of different areas in order

to succeed in their career. The Interdisciplinary Music

Studies major provides students with considerable

flexibility in choosing coursework across a number of

disciplines to align with your personal career goals.

With the help of an academic advisor, you will create

a personalized education plan, which includes three

courses of your choosing in both music business

and technology (two critical areas driving change

in the music industry), in addition to a series of core

music and liberal arts courses. You will then choose

additional courses in music production, composition,

arranging, songwriting, performance, or other areas

to strengthen your skill set specific to the career

you are seeking. The program culminates with a

capstone experience in which you will complete an

in-depth project that demonstrates your readiness

for professional work or advancement in the

music industry.

OverviewLearn current music production, sound design,

and synthesis technologies to create professional

electronic music compositions. This program

teaches students to apply core studio technologies

and techniques, including recording, editing, and

mixing, to electronic music and sound design

projects. You will develop a deep understanding

of electronic instruments, mastering a variety of

synthesizer programming paradigms including

subtractive, additive, FM, sampling, and granular. By

the end of the program, you will have a portfolio of

professional-quality sound designs and electronic

music compositions to prepare you for a career as an

artist, producer, remixer, or sound designer in fields

such as electronic music production, post production,

and video game sound.

OverviewGain the knowledge and practical skills to compose,

arrange, and orchestrate effective dramatic music

for visual media, including film, television, and

interactive media. The program begins with a set of

core music and technology courses to provide both

the conceptual foundation in music theory and the

technical foundation in a digital audio workstation to

record, sequence, and mix music for visuals. You will

study the works of master composers and innovators

and analyze the role of music in a dramatic medium.

You will then work through a series of composition

and orchestration courses designed to teach specific

techniques and develop your ability to write and write

often for visual media.
