Social Distancing

At all times, BES staff and students will remain 6 feet apart from each other.

MasksAll staff and students are required to wear a mask all day, unless you are eating.

B+ Remote Students will begin with in-person instruction during a two-week onboarding period; beginning the third week of school, all instruction will be remote.

August 17-19 - Cohort A attends school for orientation & opening of school activities

August 20-25 - Cohort B attends school for orientation & opening of school activities

August 26-28 - Cohort C attends school for orientation & opening of school activities

August 31 - Remote for all begins

Schools should be scheduling students by rotation for Plan B with the understanding that we will transition back to the Plan B at some point this year - one week in and 2-weeks out.

District guidelines forthcoming on how to handle in-person enrollments during orientation weeks.

Wellness Screening

Temperature Check

Student Arrival - Bus Students will exit the bus one at a time to be temperature checked. Students must remain on the bus until they have been checked.

Student Arrival - Car Pool/Walkers

● Student’s temperature checked within cars before exiting. Checklist (Page 7 Strong schools) will be asked by staff of parents

● Once checked, students will be able to enter the building● Walkers will need to enter the building through the front/main entrance to

be temperature checked

Inclement Weather → staff will be under main awning spaced out

Late Arriving Students● Students that arrive after 8:30am, will need to remain outside at the

designated 6-feet marks and wait to be temperature checked● Late Arrival Temperature Screeners: Henry and Carter● Once temperature checked, students will proceed to a table, outside, and

must sign-in and complete a parent/guardian attestation form● Once signed in, students should proceed directly to class. No late arriving

student or guardian should enter the main office

Student AM/PM Classroom Entry & Exit● Teachers need to be at their doors, but slightly apart, greeting students

○ Do not engage in hugs or high-fives

● The first thing that students should do upon entering the classroom is to wash their hands with soap & water

● Students in Grades PK-2:○ Keep bookbags in cubbies. No one should share a cubby○ Teachers should wipe down desks/chairs in the AM before students arrive

● Students in Grades 3-5○ Keep bookbags at their desk/chairs○ Wipe down their desks and chairs before sitting ○ Take out supplies and only use the supplies they bring

■ If a child does not have his/her own supplies, the teacher can provide it

Cafeteria Guidelines:

● Use hand sanitizer

● Delivered breakfast and lunch

● Eat in classroom

Breakfast: Delivered ● Cafeteria staff will deliver breakfast to the classrooms● Students will eat at their desk● Upon completion students will be allowed to dump trash and was hands

Lunch: Delivered● Teachers will take lunch orders after morning news and enter order into

google spreadsheet● Meals will be delivered to classrooms at lunch time● Students will wash hands before they eat● They will throw lunch items away and wash hands after one at a time● Students will eat outside in shaded areas while maintaining social

Eating in the Classrooms ● Breakfast will be eaten in classrooms at their desks● Lunch will be eaten outdoors, while social distancing● Trash bins will be placed in each classroom● No visitors can eat lunch with students

Transitions ● Students will have an assigned time to use the classroom● Students will maintain 6 feet apart if the class moves to outside recess or

learning● Students will stay in the classroom as much as possible● Allow a brain break every hour at their desk

Bathrooms 1st floor

● Maintain having students use the in-classroom restroom one at a time

2nd floor

● Follow the designated time and allow only one student at a time to use the restroom

Bathrooms will be cleaned 3 times a day

Special Areas● Will report to the classroom for lesson, except for PE can report to the

gym● Will be held daily

Recess● Outdoor recess locations in open area● No sharing of equipment● Maintain social distancing● Physical activity can be lead by a student- simon says, follow the leader● No use of playground equipment

Dismissal Procedures● Please provide hand sanitizer to each student before they leave the classroom for

dismissal● Any student that gets sick during the day are not eligible to ride the school bus due to

safety concerns - parents must be contacted to pick up their child - coordinate with the office

● Someone will come to your classroom to pick up the child and escort them to our Hospitality Suite (dance room)

● Students must sit at their desk and wait until they are dismissed. DO NOT LINE STUDENTS UP IN THE CLASSROOM WHILE WAITING FOR DISMISSAL

● Students by last name in carpool will be called for dismissal. Do not leave your room until you have been called.

● Please instruct your students to walk quietly down the right hand side of the hallway with 6 feet distance between other students. It is important that you help monitor the students in the hallway to ensure dismissal is safe and orderly.

Dismissal Procedures- ASEP, Walkers, Van riders● Social Distancing Dismissal - ASEP, Walkers, Van Riders

○ ASEP (3:15) will collect their students (K-3), 4-5 ASEP will be dismissed next. Please let students leave one at a time (from their desk) and monitor the halls for social distancing. Establish a regular dismissal order for contact tracing purposes.

○ WALKERS (3:20) - DO NOT DISMISS UNTIL THEY ARE CALLED and dismiss one at a time (from their desk) while monitoring the hall for social distancing

■ Hall Location - walk on the left side of the hallway practicing social distancing■ Location - Music Room - sitting socially distant / dismiss out the side door of the music

room○ VAN RIDERS (3:20) - DO NOT DISMISS UNTIL THEY ARE CALLED and dismiss one at a time (from

their desk) while monitoring the hall for social distancing■ Hall Location - walk on the right side of the hallway practicing social distancing■ Location - Gym and their designation location for their van will be away from other van

riders with sitting at least 6 feet away from one another

Dismissal Procedures- Carpool● Social Distancing Dismissal - CARPOOL (3:25) - students will need to be dismissed one at a

time (in waves) and each teacher will need to monitor the hall for social distancing. Due to social distancing, students will sit in the hallway in front of the gym and in the foyer of the school - Do not dismiss students until they are called

○○ Parents will be notified of their child’s dismissal window to allow for a smooth transition

Dismissal Procedures- Buses● Social Distancing Dismissal - BUSES

○ Grade level will not be called but buses will be called one at a time and you will dismiss those students when their bus is called - once again monitor the hallways for social distancing

○ Teacher - double-check when your student leaves for the bus that’s called ○ Teachers must have their dismissal plan uploaded to Google Drive before dismissal.

During the first month of school, teachers need to bring student addresses and phone numbers to the parking lot (transportation roster).

○ Bus not on campus - for the buses that have not arrived, students will stay in the classroom with the teacher

Dismissal Procedures- Late Bus● Late Bus Arrival

○ Staff - Carter, Henry, Pre-K teacher and SBS teacher or TA, with a designated staff member assigned to that bus duty

○ Low number of late buses (2 or 3) - If buses arrive after 3:45, students will be called to the gym or outside the gym by bus to wait for their bus to arrive

○ Signs will be posted to where students can sit and social distancing will be highlighted

○ Weather permitting - keep students outside

Attendance

On remote instruction days, attendance is determined by daily evidence of student engagement with instructional content. This includes but is not limited to:

● Attending and participating in synchronous class instruction, class meetings etc.

● Evidence of engagement with class materials on Canvas based on Canvas analytics and Student Interactions reports

● Submission of assignments● Completion of assessments

At the elementary level, daily attendance should be monitored in the homeroom class. Teachers will log daily remote attendance in PowerSchool.

Small Group Instruction ● Small group instruction can/should continue during in-person and virtual

learning○ In-Person: maintain social distance and wear masks○ Virtually: use of Zoom break-out rooms, scheduling of 1:1/small group of student

○ In flexible learning environments, technology is not a requirement, but engaging learners and supporting them with the systems to take ownership of their learning is close to impossible to do consistently without it. In this skill, teachers can identify appropriate tools for various functions, and support students and families to understand them and be successful with them over time. (class dojo, seesaw)

● Teacher Presence○ Unlike face-to-face teaching that depends on physical presence and teacher immediacy, teaching presence in flexible learning

depends on course design and organization that helps the students ‘see’ and have access to their teacher. This skill involves both direct and indirect instruction and culture that can support students to feel the presence of their teacher, even when they are not around. (classcraft, office hours)

● Social Presence○ “Social presence is defined as the ability of participants in a community to project themselves and their thinking as real

○ In a flexible environment, the way we design tasks is important to student engagement and learning. Tasks must be scaffolded and chunked up to encourage completion, and choice, interest, and relevance of the tasks are also key levers for success. (choice board, book clubs)

● Social Emotional○ In a flexible learning environment, SEL is key to student learning and success. Self-regulation, growth mindset, and

self-awareness are key parts of completing tasks away from the teacher’s direct instruction, and trauma informed practices can help us respond to students that need additional support and love. (lunch bunch, game time, check ins)
