July was an amazing month

Our kids went to Camp Cale and enjoyed a fantastic albeit hot week of worship study and fun They came back more excited than ever to be a part of all God is doing in our world

Our Committees have been busy and have prepared a budget and filled a full slate of Nominations for the coming church year Special thanks to all those who accepted positions

Our Sunday School has stayed strong with great attendance even through the vacation months For the first time in years our Sunday School average for this church year is over 98

Most amazingly our Vacation Bible School was Beyond a Success Let me lay down some statistics for you over 100 enrolled average attendance in the mid 60s 40+ volunteers 13 decisions for Christ 10 of which were first-time salvation decisions wow Baptism servicehellip coming soon

VBS cannot happen without the tireless work of our volunteers I witnessed those 40+ adults loving on these children in amazing ways Teaching feeding playing crafting sciencing (not sure what else to call it) and generally being there to show Godrsquos love to each student in our care

Above all VBS canrsquot be as amazing and life-changing as ours was without Godrsquos hand present to move His creation to adoption as Children of God He was powerfully at work especially on Thursday

July has been an exciting month at Berea where we have seen God go ldquoabove and beyond all that we ask or thinkrdquo He is bringing Berea to an exciting time of growth even in months that can often feel like a slump

I pray that God will lead you to join Him in what He is doing here and that you will serve continue to serve Him with this family of believers I pray that God will use July as a springboard to heights even Beyond-er what He has done already

The summer between by freshman and sophomore year I had a job working at Bennetts Creek Nursery and my second job a few summers later was at a Golf Course doing landscaping Since those summers long ago I have always enjoyed planting flowers tending the lawn and working in my gardens One thing has always stood out to me no matter what plant I am working with - water can bring life and in many cases

restore it Irsquom sure yoursquove seen flowers after a hot summer day or two without water that have wilted and look dead Saturate the dirt surrounding the root and within hours the leaves are again strong and the plant is beautiful once more

This simple illustration perfectly sums up the people around us our neighbors family and coworkers who are wilting parched and in need of something to give them life or perhaps restore it The truly amazing thing is that Jesus provides that life saving life giving water through a relationship with Him He brings strength and renews our soul He gives joy in the midst of lifersquos most desolate and dry seasons and He showers us with love that we need and hardly deserve

My simple illustration doesnrsquot end there however A few years back my wife got me one of my favorite gifts a rain barrel I have it in the perfect spot and it rarely ever goes empty I use its water to bring life to my plants but the interesting thing is that even on the hottest days a plant that is literally sitting right next to it canrsquot get to that water inside the barrel It is my job to fill a jug and take the water to the plants For you and I our job is to take the life giving water of Jesus to those around us so that they too can drink Not that we save them of our own strength but we know the source We have the life giving water that everyone around us needs It may be the unsaved neighbor who wonrsquot dare to darken the doors of the church or it may be a weary Christian who has been away for far too long You and I must go out and share what we possess the living water of Jesus Christ

ldquoJesus answered and said to her lsquoIf you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you Give Me a drink you would have asked Him and He would have given you living waterrsquo - John 410

He who believes in Me as the Scripture said From his innermost being will flow rivers of living waterrsquordquo - John 738

Next Meeting August 12 2019

The apostle Paul described our generation in the words of appeal to Timothy ldquoPreach the Wordrdquo

Our only hope for a moral awakening and a return to Godrsquos values is that this generation come back to the Bible

ldquoBe diligent to present yourselves approved to God a worker who doesnrsquot need to be ashamed

correctly teaching the word of truthrdquo 2 Timothy 215

Thank God for the opportunity to minister to people through the building of ramps and to share

with them in prayer God is Good

Steve Durham and John Gregory are the individuals who accepted nominations as Deacons and will therefore serve as new Deacons beginning September 1 Please be in prayer for them and our current Deacons as they serve our congre-gation in the coming year

Handyman Ministry Updates

This ramp was taken down from Mrs James Brayrsquos It was put back up for Mrs Sally Bruderlersquos niece who has MS and is confined to a wheel chair She was only visiting for a few days and we will move the ramp to another residence

This ramp was taken down from a resi-dence in Forest Park and put up for Mrs Mable Mullensrsquo mother who has to take Dialysis treatments 3 days a week This makes it easier to get her in and out of the house

We built this ramp for Mr Coppersmith who has a heart condition and was not able to come home without a ramp

He is a local believer who is faithfully leading a Bible study for a group of his friends in the Middle East

These men all grew up following the teachings of Muhammad but now they have made the life-altering decision to follow Christ They face persecution and discrimination because of their choice

When they gather to study Godrsquos Word Nasser and his friends first talk about how they are growing in their faith They then move into a time of worship followed by a time to share prayer requests Nasser then leads them in the study of the Word

The believers learn what the Bible teaches about forgiveness perse-cution and abiding in Christ They practice retelling the Bible stories they learn so they can share them with their families friends and community

They end the meeting with prayer and they ask God to help them be faithful witnesses to their friends They also pray for their children who have been harshly questioned at school for not knowing the Qurrsquoan (the holy book of Islam)

Pray Nasser will continue to grow as a leader

Pray the group will have the courage to witness to others to grow in their faith and to face persecution with discernment

Pray for Godrsquos protection over their children

Pray that all the people in their community will hear the gospel and respond

Gifts through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christ-mas Offering support Southern Baptists living and working in North Africa and the Middle East Baptist workers help new believers grow in their faith and share the good news of Godrsquos Word

Dear Friends at Berea

Irsquom writing you on Wednesday night my time but itrsquos still Wednesday morn-ing for you I heard Curtis will be speaking to you tonight and wanted to give him a short note to read for me I have never actually heard Curtis speak about his trips to MY So if someone would secretly record him and then show me later that would be great

It is really humbling for me to know that you are all together tonight talking about MY and the work I know that you remember me in your prayers and that is pretty significant because it was 25 years ago that I worked at Berea and you are STILL praying and supporting Talk about ldquoin it for the long haulrdquo You didnrsquot know what you were getting into when you hired a little college freshman as your children and youth minister Thank you for always being there for me And then there are those of you who came to Berea after me and adopted me as your own

I know Curtis will tell you all about the people and the work thatrsquos close to his heart and my heart and Godrsquos heart I better leave time for him We all know he is passionate about MY and when he gets to talkingwellhellip

I do want to ask one favor Can someone take a picture of the group gath-ered tonight and then email to me Thanks

We are collecting school supplies for students in our Church and our Local Schools Please bring your supplies on Sunday August 25 and place them under the tree in the Sanctuary Here are a few ideas of some of the most emergent needs
