14. Image Draping
Draping images attached via Raster Manager has become a relatively easy task. Attached rasters can be used as materials and applied to a 3D surface. To illustrate the process we will use a raster image of the earth and apply it to a 3D sphere.
Raster Manager
To allow an image to be used as a material for draping there are a few steps to complete in Raster Manager.
1. Attach the image to be draped on the 3D object/surface.
2. <R> in the column header and turn on the column display for Draping.

3. Toggle On the Draping option for the attached image.
Assign Material
1. In the Tasks dialog, expand the Visualization task and locate the Materials tools.
2. Select the Assign Material tool.

4. Change the Material setting to dcdrape.
5. <D> on the 3D surface object on which to drape the raster image.
Render the View
1. Change the view display style to Smooth: Shadows.

Lab 14 – Image Draping
Objectives The purposes of this lab are to:
Configure raster options in the Print dialog
Configure raster options in the print driver
Open MicroStation
1. Launch MicroStation using the EnvisionCAD icon.
2. In the MicroStation Manager dialog, change the following settings:
a. Set the User workspace to EnvisionCAD b. Set the Project workspace to EnvisionCAD-Descartes c. Set the Interface to EnvisionCAD d. Set the directory to
C:\EnvisionCAD\MicroStation\Descartes
3. Select the file named: Project_Drape.dgn
4. Open Raster Manager.
Prepare the Drawing
1. There are two images attached that are not displayed. See if you can get the images to display. If you have successfully displayed the images, move ahead to step 5.
2. The images are attached at an elevation outside the active clipping plane. Select Display > Fit Rasters to View from the Raster Manager menu bar.
3. In the tool settings window, toggle on the option to Expand Clipping Planes.
4. <D> anywhere in the view.
5. The images are displayed. Select the MicroStation Fit View tool to fit the refit the view.
6. Window in on the design approximately as shown.
