SHAHEEN BAGHPROTESTS, 2019

Protests in Tamil Nadu shook the na-tion, following a SC ban on the tra-ditional bull-taming sport Jallikattu,

after years of complaints about animal cru-elty by PETA. The ban was not accepted bythe people , as according to them, the sportis central to their cultural identity. Theprotests turned violent when police tried toevict the protesters. On January 23, 2017,the Tamil Nadu govt legalised Jallikattu andpassed a bill to amend the PCA (Preventionof Cruelty to Animals Act) 1960 Act.

PRO-JALLIKATTUPROTESTS, 2017

Students of the Film and Televi-sion Institute of India (FTII), thecountry’s premier film education

centre went on an indefinite strike,protesting the appointment of televi-sion actor-turned-politician GajendraChauhan as the chairman of the in-stitute by the information & broad-casting ministry. After more than 150days of agitation, the students dis-continued their protest.

The 2012 Delhi gang rape incidentsaw one of the angriest reactionsfrom people across the country. Af-

ter the incident, thousands came out onstreets to protest . The movement also cre-ated a stir on social media. The govern-ment at the Centre and various states wereforced to announce several steps to ensurethe safety of women.

NIRBHAYA MOVEMENT, 2012

The anti-corruption movementwas a series of demonstrationsand protests across India that

began in 2011, and was intended toestablish stringent legislation andenforcement against perceived en-demic political corruption. Themovement gained momentum fromApril 5, 2011, when anti-corruptionactivist Anna Hazare began a hungerstrike at the Jantar Mantar monu-ment in New Delhi.

In early April 2018, thousands ofpeople belonging to the ScheduledCastes and Scheduled Tribes

(SC/ST) protested across India againstan order of the Supreme Court on theAtrocities Act. The protests turned vi-olent across several states in India, asthe protesters blocked trains, damagedproperty, and clashed with police andother civilians. As many as 10 peopledied and hundreds were injured.

How is this beveragehelpful?In a new study carried out bythe researchers at the Univer-sity of Birmingham, re-searchers explored the effects offlavonoids found in cocoa (hotchocolate) on the brain function-ing of younger and healthy adults.The study was carried out on 18males between the age of 18 and 40.Each participant underwent a pro-cedure challenging the brain’s bloodcirculation, in which they had tobreathe 5 per cent carbon dioxide.

What researchers found out?In the end, it was found that people whodrank the beverage made with flavanol-rich natural cocoa had the highest lev-els of blood oxygenation in response tohypercapnia. The level of blood oxy-genation was up to three times higherthan those who drank the processed, al-kalized cocoa beverage. Eventually, theparticipants also completed the com-plex cognitive tasks 11 per cent fasteron average.

Other sources of flavanolsFrom this study, it can be clearly saidthat flavanol can help to improve the cog-nitive functioning of the brain. But co-coa is not the only food that are rich inflavanols. Others include apples,berries, grapes, and green tea thatcontains flavanols.

Family vacations are the best times of any year. Whenever my holidays start, I startwondering which place is going to be our

destination this vacation. One time, after a longdiscussion I won the chance to decide the desti-nation. we decided to plan a trip to Shimla. Firstof all, we went to experience the Toy Train ride.And it was an astounding one! We also went forrafting , which I must say, was my favourite partabout the trip! It isn't just a thrilling experiencebut also a team exercise that I enjoyed with myfamily. Rafting is an ecstatic Activity whichinvolves a lot of joy and excitement. We also vis-ited lakkar bazaar. This is a wood market in shim-

la. We bought a lot of items for ourfriends and relatives from here. We

also visited a couple oftemples like Dhanudevta Temple and Tara

devi Temple. Andofcourse I can't

forget about the Yak

ride! At first I was very scared to even go near theYak. But then the Yak handler persuaded me so I wentfor it. And yes, I had a great time. Visiting shimla wasindeed my most memorable experience and I wouldlove to visit here again!

ings, online competitions andevents; this is the new normal (orat least it will be for a while) if I

Healthy eating is a way of life, soit's important to establish rou-tines that are simple, realisti-cally, and ultimately liveable.

As a part of Healthy Eating Day Ac-tivity, the students of Arunodaya Pub-lic School of classes 1 to 5 enjoyed mak-ing sandwiches. The virtual sandwichmaking activity was conducted on 3rdJuly, 2020.

In this activity, the students got an op-portunity to assemble the slices of bread,fresh cucumbers and mashed potatoes.The little ones were excited for this activ-ity. They had fun making their own sand-wiches and eating them too. They workedtheir way through making the sandwich-es eager to be first amongst peers.

The students used slices of bread,cheese. tomato, onion, butter cucumberat home and assembled the same them-selves. They later relished the deliciousself-made treats. This activity helpedthe young chefs in learning how to be

self-reliant. It also improved their finemotor skills, language and vocabulary.Their delight was in making the sand-wiches by their own which was doneconfidently.

The teachers made special effortsfor integrating the activity with ethicsand teaching the students about the nu-tritious value of sandwiches, encour-aging them to bring healthy homemadefood and teaching them the art of foodpresentation as well as etiquettes ofserving.

In this process the children gaineda deeper understanding of eatinghealthy food and helped them learn andgave them a chance to prepare their ownfood.

Consideringthis, the Diamond JubileeHigh School (ICSE), Mumbaiand Diamond Jubilee HighSchool for Girls, Mumbaimanaged by Aga Khan Education Service,India, conducted a Shake Out drill, to im-prove the level of preparedness during anearthquake among the staff and students.

Shake Out drills are conducted acrossall Aga Khan Development Network(AKDN) institutions on the same day. Theschool shave been conducting these drillstwice every year for the past decade. To thiseffect, it has instituted a School EmergencyManagement Committee (SEMC) whichconsists of a teacher, student and some par-ents. CAN PANDYA BECOME ARELIABLE FINISHER?

Hardik Pandya is fast becoming India’s most valu-able player in white-ball cricket. He is going tobe more valuable than Kohli, Rohit or Bumrah.If India has to win the World T20, HardikPandya could be the one to play the biggestrole in that. India has not won the last few limit-ed-overs World Cups. Our top-order has always beengood: Rohit Sharma scored five centuries in one World Cup andVirat Kohli always scores runs.

But why don’t we win the matches in the end? Earlier there was(MS) Dhoni who used to be left alone. Now with Dhoni having left,there is no one. If you have to win the next World Cup, there is noway you can win it with just Rohit, Rahul and Kohli in the top three.It will not work with that, you need finishing because that is India’sproblem in T20 or ODI cricket. We bowl well but have a problem inthe finishing with the batting. The strong finishers are not present,it is a different skill which cannot be taught.

The rise of Hardik Pandya that we have seen, the way he hasgrown as a player from the first IPL till now, it seems that heowns the place. In ODI cricket, if there is a collapse batting firstthen he takes his time, if you send him at the end, he justsmashes the sixes.

If you talk about the second T20I, in the recent past you wouldhave felt that it is only possible if Dhoni is there but otherwisethere is no chance. But this time when Hardik was batting, wewere also feeling and he was also feeling that there is no tensionand that he will manage.
