Today, I feel ex-tremely proud to bea social teacher and

tual edition of Meridian ModelUnited Nations on October 30 and31. The two-day conference start-ed with a welcome note by princi-pal and CEO of MeridianSchool, D Usha Reddy. Theopening ceremony wasgraced by SamarthPathak, communicationsofficer and focal point-Edu-cation for Justice Initiative,regional office for SouthAsia, UNODC, whose mes-sage instilled a sense ofpride and motivationfor the next two days.
The studentswere also addressed bythe former Member ofParliament and founder of Merid-ian group of Schools, Butta Renu-ka, who encouraged everyone topush their boundaries of learningand explore further. Secretarygeneral of MUN Alekhya Vemuriwelcomed the delegates and de-clared the conference open. Thevirtual MUN was attended by over150 delegates from across Indiaand from the US and UAE.
The delegates entered intoheated but healthy debates onmany pressing problems. The
committees UNGA- DISEC,UNHRC, UNODC and WHO whichwere moderated by proficient ex-ecutive board members sawunique solutions and ideas pro-posed by the delegates. The Inter-national Press Reporters did a phe-nomenal job by conducting pressconferences and simulating thereal life press in the committees.
On the first day, the delegates,organising committee and execu-tive board members had the op-
portunity to interact withsome of the top universitiesacross the globe to explorecareer opportunities. Thesecond day saw a fresh set
of ideas and proposals put for-ward by the delegates in their

celebrate Halloween Day,which marks the end ofsummer and the harvestand the beginning of the
dark and cold winter. Chil-dren enthusias-
tically participated in the fan-cy dress competition andwere seen in traditional Hal-loween costumes modelledafter supernatural figuressuch as vampires, monsters,ghosts, skeletons, witches,

Halloween had its origins in the festi-val of Samhain among the Celts of ancientBritain and Ireland. On the day corre-sponding to November 1 on contemporarycalendars, the new year was believed to
begin. That datewas considered thebeginning of the win-ter period, the date onwhich the herds were re-
turned from pasture and land tenures wererenewed. During the Samhain festival thesouls of those who had died were believedto return to visit their homes, and thosewho had died during the year were be-lieved to journey to the otherworld. Peo-ple set bonfires on hilltops for relightingtheir hearth fires for the winter and tofrighten away evil spirits, and they some-times wore masks and other disguises toavoid being recognised by the ghoststhought to be present.
