staircase from the Eiffel Tower will be auctioned byArtcurial on December 1 as part of its Parisian ArtDeco and Design Sale.

The 2.6-metre segment comes from the historicspiral staircase built by Gustave Eiffel and his col-laborators for the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Afew years later, an elevator replaced the originalstaircase between the second and the third floorof the iconic monument, which is why the stair-case was dismantled. It was separated into 24segments, two of which measure nine metres

One of these long segments remains on theTower's first floor, while three others wereredistributed to Paris's Musée d'Orsay and Citédes sciences de la Villette and the Musée del'Histoire du fer (Iron history museum) inNancy (in east of France)

The segment of the staircase being auc-tioned off in December by Artcurial comes froma private Canadian collection. It is estimated tofetch between 30,000 and 40,000 euros

The NRC hasangered Dhaka as they mighthave to accept thousands ofemigres. But when the pan-demic hit Bangladesh it was(yet again) China who provided them help.

WHAT WE CAN LEARN

The lesson here is thatwe must cooperate with ourneighbours. We must use ourwarm relations with powerfulwestern countries to presentourselves as a counter weight.

Before looking at the restof the world we must first prioritise SAARC and en-gage in open dialogue overborder disputes. CurbingBeijing's influence, respect-ing our smaller neighbours,promoting peace and fierce-ly fighting for democracy isthe only way to win back oldfriends.
