better schools or teachers• Parent choice will give

schools the push for excellence

• Supports creating National Standards to go with a National Standardized test

• Once the testing completed get the Fed. OUT!

• “standards set nationally, daily decisions made locally”

• Need standards and freedom in education

• Supports NCLB but criticizes that parent choice was cut out

• Choice empowers: parents, students, teachers and principals

• NCLB needs to provide the comparative information on how School A vs. School B perform

• Should include test scores AND information on teacher turnover, attendance, discipline, and graduation rates

• Active in variety of political arenas• Was a Democrat, then switched to Republican in late 1980’s• Controversy: Scandal with gambling (estimated $8 million loss) and an off color statement on his show in 2005:

"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. ... That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down.”
