    To all Hindus the Ramayana is an important religious text. It describes the life of SriRam, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is divided into seven parts. f these,Sunder!and is considered the most important. The reading of Sunder!and helps

    people find happiness and fulfillment. Therefore, "hen it is not possible to have acomplete narration of the Ramayana, on all auspicious occasions people have acommunity prayer "here Sunder!and is narrated.Sunder!and concludes "ith the follo"ing verse#Sunder!and sings the praises of Sri Ram. It helps achieve all that is good andauspicious, both "orldly and spiritual. $hoever hears it "ith devotion shall "ithoutany means be able to cross the ocean of life. The seven parts of the Ramayana have been e%uated "ith seven pilgrimages that leadto salvation & 'yodhya, (athura, (aya, )ashi, )anchi, 'vanti!a *uri + --ain and/varvati +/"ar!a . Thereby, Sunder!and is e%uated "ith the fifth pilgrimage of)anchi. )anchi is again divided into t"o parts & Shiv )anchi and Vishnu )anchi. Sunder!and is a beautiful, rhythmic verbal description of Sri Ram. It comprises threeshlo!as +hymns of praise , six chhand +meters , 01 dohe +couplets and 230 chaupai+Hindi poetic metre . f the 01 couplets, the first 41 pertain to the description andcharacter of Sri Hanuman and the other 41 pertain to the %ualities of Sri Ram. The"ord sunder meaning beautiful, handsome, virtuous, and good appears in 35 chaupai.Sri Hanuman is the chief character in Sunder!and. $ithin Sunder!and there areseveral stories that encourage those "ith mental uneasiness to achieve peace andharmony.

    Sunder!and gives a beautiful description of Sri Ram6s ambassador Hanuman6sstrength, !no"ledge and "isdom. $ith the blessings of Sri Ram he is able to cross theocean in one leap. $hen faced by Lan!ini, guarding the gates to Lan!a, hesuccessfully overcomes her and gains entrance. 'lthough a bachelor, Hanumanconveys an emotionally charged description of Sri Ram6s longing for her that helpsSita forget her o"n pangs of loneliness due to separation from her husband. nmeeting Vibhishna, he uses the policy of "inning him over to his side by causingdissension. n meeting Ravana, he uses the policy of differentiation anddiscrimination.
