AND MORE! What is Qigong? Qigong (pronounced “chee gung”) is a seven thousand year old Chinese healthcare system. Tai Chi is actually derived from Qigong systems. You may have seen it—a simple series of slow movements designed by ancient masters to improve health and increase longevity. In China, it is very common to see people of all ages (well into their 90’s!) doing Qigong every morning in the parks or even along the sidewalks in front of their apartment buildings. Everyone is gracefully moving in slow motion. It is quite beautiful to watch. Who Can Practice Qigong? There are Qigong forms for those who need to remain seated, and medical Qigong forms for treating various illnesses that can be done by those who are quite infirm. There are even Qigong clinics in China for the terminally ill. The standard Qigong forms can be done by just about anyone who can walk steadily for 20 minutes without pain or losing one’s breath. The movements are simple and easy to learn, with no special background or ability required. There are some contra-indications for Qigong: If you have or will be getting an organ transplant, If you have an active case of diarrhea, If you are taking an immuno-suppresive drug, If you have an untreated broken bone, If you are having a psychotic episode or event. Five Types of Jade Power Qigong Classes: 1. Senior Starter Health and Strength 25 - 30 minutes. For those who are unable to stand for 45 minutes. The Eight Section Brocade (seated version) is one of the oldest Qigong forms still being practiced today. Included are guided meditations and special breathing techniques. 2. Senior Stress Buster and Health Improvement 30 - 35 minutes. For those over 50 who are not in good physical condition, but are able to stand or walk for 45 minutes. Class includes: The Eight Section Brocade (standing version), the Wuji short form, guided meditations and an acupressure routine. The Wuji form is from Master Duan Zhi Liang, a 99-year-old acupuncturist and martial arts master from Beijing. 3. Senior Maximizer for Health and Longevity 45 - 50 minutes. For those 50 and up who are still active and want to stay that way. Class includes: The Eight Section Brocade (standing version), the Wuji long form and the Nine Dragon Brocade, guided meditations and an acupressure routine. The Wuji forms are from Master Duan Zhi Liang and other masters. 4. Qigong for Senior Athletes and Martial Artists 50 - 60 minutes. For the very athletic. Instruction includes soft and hard Qigong, internal and external Qigong. Zhan Zhuan (Standing Stake) and Chan Si Gong (Silk reeling). 5. Guo Lin's Qigong to help Fight Cancer and other Diseases 30 minute classes teaching Qigong forms used by Guo Lin to treat herself and others in China who have suffered from cancer. The Guo Lin Qigong is now practiced by hundreds of thousands of people in cities all over China.

What is Appropriate Attire for Qigong?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing thatallows ease of movement.

Depending on the flooring, bare feet, flat-soled sneakers, socks, outdoor tabi (akind of Japanese sock with a firm sole)are all acceptable.

No necklaces, bracelets or dangleearrings because they get in the waywhile moving.

Since there will be a lot of deep breathing,it is best not to wear perfume, cologne orheavily scented deodorants.
