At the very moment that Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Molly Sloan and her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez find their story on international pelt smuggling at a dead end, their contact is assassinated right before their eyes. Yes, Molly and Timmy have stumbled upon the story of the century: an impending invasion of sludge monsters from the planet Zygon.

When the robot emissary Elbee-Dee-Oh disappears in deep space, it’s up to Molly Sloan to rescue him. At the same time, and unbeknownst to her, her former fiancé Dr. Lawrence Webster has arrived on Robonovia, the Cerebretron is malfunctioning, Timmy has only just begun to master his telekinetic powers, a sinister robot named Alphatron is up to something terribly nefarious, and the Soviet spy Natasha Zorokov has followed Dr. Webster through the Galactascope. Will it all get sorted out or is there another, more evil thread to this complex tapestry?

(No previous “Intergalactic Nemesis” experience necessary.)

Inspired by “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Star Wars” and the pulp serials of the 1930s, “The Intergalactic Nemesis” is a treat for the kid in everyone. “The Intergalactic Nemesis” is a one-of-a-kind mash-up of radio drama and comic book adventure. Three actors voice dozens of characters, a Foley artist creates hundreds of sound effects, a keyboardist performs a score while more than 1,250 individual, full-color, hand-drawn, high-resolution, blow-your-mind comic book images are projected on an enormous screen. The year is 1933. Are you ready for the adventure?

Christmas Rocks!

The Brian Setzer Orchestra brings their Christmas Rocks 10th Anniversary Tour! to McCain Auditorium. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Setzer has smash hits as founder/leader of The Stray Cats, his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra and as a solo artist. His Christmas concert will include Setzer’s legendary guitar magic on hits such as “Rock This Town,” “(She’s) Sexy +17,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Jump, Jive and Wail” and lots more, as well as his re-imagined and acclaimed holiday classics.

Three-time Grammy-award-winner Brian Setzer is a “musician’s musician” credited with consistently taking chances with innovative and daring musical styles, while single-handedly resurrecting two forgotten

genres of music (rockabilly in the ‘80s and swing in the ‘90s). Along the way he has scored chart-topping hits throughout his decorated career as founder/leader of the Stray Cats, his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, and as a solo artist.

If that wasn’t enough, Setzer found tremendous success in redefining Christmas music for a generation desperately desiring something new and exciting around the holidays. The result was three best-selling holiday albums (Boogie Woogie Christmas, Dig That Crazy Christmas and Christmas Rocks!: The Best Of Collection) and an annual Christmas tour that has certainly become the most exciting annual rockin’ Christmas event on the planet. The Los Angeles Times calls it a show “whose sheer joy is irresistible!”

When summer began in 1947, television was new, the sound barrier had not been broken and baseball was a white man’s game. By the fall, all that had changed. President Truman addressed the nation for the first time on TV, Chuck Yeager flew faster than any man ever had, and Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play major league baseball. It was no accident that Jackie Robinson was chosen to break the color barrier. There were plenty of good athletes in the Negro Leagues — some maybe even better than Jackie. But when Branch Rickey decided to add a black person to the Brooklyn Dodgers, he knew that individual had to be special. He had to be strong enough to stand up to the teammates who would ridicule him, the pitchers who would throw at him and the fans who would threaten him. He had to be able to turn the other cheek, to show that he was the bigger man and to prove that he could be everybody’s hero. This new play with music by Mad River Theater Works shows the events that shaped Jackie Robinson’s character, his struggle to gain acceptance and the tremendous obstacles he overcame on his way to changing the face of our nation and our national pastime.

An inspirational story of a brave man’s struggle for equality.

A critical smash on Broadway and in London, the two-time Tony Award® winning hit musical “American Idiot” tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on the most exhilarating theatrical journey of the season.

Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album, “American Idiot” boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. The result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

Featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, “American Idiot” features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, direction by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (“Spring Awakening”), choreography by Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett (“Once”), music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”), Tony Award® winning set design by Christine Jones and Tony Award® winning lighting design by Kevin Adams.

Art that enchants, invigorates and awakens the imagination has always been born of the rule breakers, and no one is breaking the rules more joyously, more fervently than Kansas City’s Quixotic. A melting pot of dance, aerial acrobatics, projection mapping, high fashion and original live music, Quixotic is a cornucopia of mystical majesty that enraptures audiences who have never even dreamed a night at the theater could be this much fun. Sleek dancers

pushing the boundaries of athletic artistry soar across neon skies, painting new nature on old in a vivid fantasy world. Evocative tribal electronica sets the stage for the visual panoply of color and agility in flight. Even the aural accompaniment blurs the lines between stylistic worlds, blending organic instrumentations of lush strings and primal drums with digital symphonies of programmed beats and bellowing subsonic frequencies.

“... it’s a sensory experience that mirrors a beautiful nightmare, a barrage of twisted but elegant imagery ... moments of seemingly super-human strength and grace, as acrobats dangle from hoops or ropes above the stage.”

A hypnotic fusion of dance, live music, aerial acrobatics, visual effects and high fashion.

The weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life in “The Addams Family.” This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is “a visually satisfying, rib-tickling, lunatic musical that will entertain you to death!” says Toronto Post City. Created by “Jersey Boys” authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (“The Wild Party”), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (“Jersey Boys”) and Olivier Award-winning costume and set designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (“Shockheaded Peter”) with direction by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks, “The Addams Family” “is full of charm, wit and surprises that explain why it’s a hit on its national tour” (CBS New Orleans).

“The Addams Family” features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Italy’s Compagnia T.P.O. (Teatro di Piazza o d’Occasione) creates works melding astonishing digital imagery with multidisciplinary performance techniques in the use of music, dance, art, sculpture, digital media, computer technology, lighting and sound. Using the children’s cheering carpet, a large dance mat able to animate sounds and images through pressure sensors, T.P.O. creates a “magic” carpet where, through movement and touch, it is possible to explore imaginary gardens creating a sensitive environment in which the thin border between art and play can be experienced.

In T.P.O.’s journey to the sea, children from the audience accompanied by two professional dancers embark on an adventure of discovery in the Mediterranean — a cradle of nature, culture and myths. Bleu! begins on the idyllic Greek Islands amongst the stones, sea shells and whispers of ancient legends, wandering through bustling sea ports and finally diving into the deep blue abyss populated by fish, seaweeds, mollusks and mysterious ancient ruins of disappeared civilizations.

A timeless love story with choreography that sizzles.

More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it’s back and mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, “West Side Story” soars as the greatest love story of all time. This revival, based on Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents’ Broadway direction, remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics of the American musical theatre as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.” As the Associated Press says, “West Side Story remains Broadway’s best dance-driven musical. Five decades have not dimmed the extraordinary choreography or the score that pulsates throughout.”

“This fresh, bold production is so exciting it makes you ache with pleasure. It’s both airborne and transcendent.”

— John Lahr, The New Yorker
