Greenhouse Accessories Shelvin

Wood TopWood top benches are available as inserts to a metalframe or can be free floating on shelf supports (asshow at left). The slats are constructed of Mahoganywood which resists expansion and rotting.

Metal or Plastic TopFixed shelves can also have a metal mesh or

recycled-content, black polyethylene top. Thesematerials are open and allow water to flow. Allshelves are contained in an aluminum frame.

Glass TopGlass shelves are commonly used in gardenwindows or a space that is not a greenhouse. Theshelves are custom designed to your dimensions,When stacked, light can travel through the shelvesto lower plants.

Greenhouse AccessorPlant Hangers

Aluminum Tube Hanger A fixed aluminum tube runs the length of thegreenhouse at eave height. The tube is attached at each

bay with a clip and can be painted to match the framefor an additional charge.

Sliding Plant Hanger A unique system that consists of a metal bar withindividual carriers inside the bar. Each carrier haswheels which allow the gardener to slide hanging

baskets left and right.

Decorative CornerCast aluminum plant hangers with a historicallyinspired, ornate design. This plant hanger is meantto be noticed and painted is to match the structure’sframe. Each corner typically holds one hanging

basket.

Aluminum Truss

This structural support truss is specially designedinto the greenhouse frame and can be used as a planthanger, as they are able to hold heavy plants. Multipletrusses can be designed into greenhouses for largecollections of hanging baskets.

Ring and CollarRing and collars are a historical accessory often usedfor decorative and/or structural purposes. They areoften accented with an applique, painted to match

the frame finish, and can span the width of thegreenhouse.

Single Pant HangerIndividual o-hooks are inserted into the rafter screwtrack. Each hook holds one hanging basket and doesnot penetrate or create holes in the frame.

The purpose of a plant hanger is to accommodatehanging baskets and additional growing space.

Pleated Gravity Fed Shades

These shades can be used on both the roof andwalls. When positioned in a roof the shades willuse a Roman fold style. If placed in the wall theshades can be flat mounted on a roller or Romanfold. This system is typically used on slopedroofs. The shades are mounted to the interior ofthe glass roof, and a manual pull or motor movesthem up and down. Shades are individually sizedto fit between each rafter section. Numerouscolors and openess are available.

Wide Span Horizontal ShadeThis option spans horizontally across the eave ofa greenhouse. Shades are mounted directly to theeave. The blinds are designed in a Roman foldstyle. When extended they allow heat to be heldabove the system in the ridge, while the growingspace remains cooler. On cool winter days, theshades can be retracted to allow sunlight and

heat into the structure. Varying fabrics, types,colors, and openess are available with manual ormotorized operations.

Shading Options

Greenhouse Shades All shades for a greenhouse are built for highmoisture areas and are water resistant. Theshade materials are also bacteria and fungalresistant. Each type of shade system is suitablefor residential and commercial greenhouses. Asa rule of thumb, a greenhouse shade should bearound 25% open. Lower openesses are suitablefor low light plants and orchids.

Solar Innovations, Inc. in-system skylights are capable of being installed on any structure, including greenhoussunrooms, pool enclosures, and conservatories. This type of ventilation is also available on traditionally construcroofs consisting of shingles or standing seam. Function is similar to a ridge vent, but the skylight has a higher prRidge vents are for structures with pitches not used below 3/12, and the operable skylight can be used on lowerpitches. As hot air rises, it becomes trapped in the ridge line. The skylight will open, and release the stagnant aiThis system is ideal for shallow pitched roof lines. Greenhouse Accessor

Glass structures need ventilation, be it agreenhouse, conservatory, or pool enclosure.Without proper aeration, the structure willoverheat in warm weather. The space essentiall

becomes a unbearably hot, large glass box, ifproper ventilation is not supplied. Both ridgevents and eave vents can be set to automaticalopen when a specified temperature is reached.

Solar Innovations, Inc. offers two options: ridgeand eave vents. As hot air rises, it becomestrapped in the structure’s peak and needs toescape. The ridge vent will open, either manualor motorized and release the air. Ridge vents can

be a single bay or feature multiple bays that are

all connected.

The eave vents (or sashes), are located on thestructure’s walls and will also open. This willallow cool, fresh air to be brought into thestructure. The air will circulate through the roomand lower the temperature. This will make theroom far more comfortable and help to reduce tspread of diseases in greenhouse plants.

Greenhouse AccessorCirculation Fans

Circulation fans are needed in a greenhouseto grow healthy plants. Stagnant air breedsdiseases; the use of circulation fans cuts downon the spread of fungi and pests. After wateringthe leaves of plants they become moist and

combine with warm temperatures, diseases willgrow. Circulation fans help to dry plants quickerand reduces pests. A greenhouse can have hotand cold pockets of air that circulation fans helpto eliminate by combining all the air inside thespace.

Two fans are typically used in a greenhouseand placed in opposite corners (see diagrams

below). Various sizes are available depending ongreenhouse dimensions.

Riser Misting System A riser misting system is designed for flexibility. Thesystem is mobile; if you change your greenhouse

configuration often, this system may be your bestchoice. Risers can be placed in any given location on the

benches. A mist is sprayed over the top of the riser andat any time, can be relocated to a different area.

Drip Misting SystemThe drip misting system is used for slow water release.This system is great for gardeners who travel frequentlyor have busy schedules. A plastic hose runs the lengthof your bench, drip tubes are attached to the hose andsupply individual plants with slow and steady drips ofwater. Holes can be filled and the tubes rearranged if

necessary.

Polyrail Misting System A polyrail misting system is well suited for largeexpanses in a greenhouse. Rolling benches are oftendesigned to use the system. There are vertical stakes ineach rail, that run the length of the benches. The watersupply is located within these rails. Nozzles are insertedinto the water supply and a fine mist is brought over theplants.

Suspended Misting SystemThe suspended misting system is elevated above

benches to provide maximum bench space suspendedfrom the rafters. The system runs the length of the

benches, suspended from a jack chain. Nozzles are againinserted directly into the water supply. This system can

be positioned at virtually any desired height.

Jet Fog MistersJet fog misters are used for both watering and humidity.This system is typically mounted at the eave line andsprays a fine mist. Greenhouses with delicate plants,

like orchids, operate efficiently with the fine mists.Timing and frequency can be automated.

variety. Many tropical or ornamental plantsalso require humidity levels in the range of50-60%. Evaporative Coolers A greenhouse has the potential to overheatin summer, even with ventilation. In orderto preserve the plants, cooling need to be

incorporated. Solar Innovations, Inc. recommenan evaporative cooler which reduces temperatuand adds humidity to the greenhouse.

The evaporative cooler draws air over a wet pad by way of a fan. As the water passes over thepads, it evaporates and takes heat with it. The aithen passes into the greenhouse and can be up t30°cooler.

Evaporative coolers consume ¼ less energy thantradition air conditioners, which translates to

lower utility bills.

Evaporative coolers exchange air; rather thanre-circulating stagnant air; a benefit forgreenhouses which need fresh air to combat pesand disease.

Each unit is vented to the outside, with thephysical unit also being located outdoors. Theunits exterior is a neutral tan, blending easily wthe building’s facades.
