Ben Slow (Laura)
• Ben Slow is a portrait artist from London, England.
• His subjects vary from Hollywood scarlets, such as Audrey Hepburn, to pop culture icons.
Ben Slow• The point of Slow’s work is to
reduce the silhouette to its simplist point, but still embellish various details such as its energy, depth and texture.
• Texture is a very important part of Ben Slow’s work. The portraits are richly detailed in an intricate process of layering different textures of paint and colours.
• Ben Slow manipulates the paint so it appears as though it is dripping down the art work.
• This is more noticeable in the large scale works such as those at the Royal Albert Hall (above) or in the various street pieces.
Roy Lichtenstein (Sarah W)October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997

Other Techniques

• Gives the canvas a uniform white appearance.
• Magna: a type of acrylic paint easily removed with turpentine
• Serigraph: silk-screening print
• Woodcut print: made from a carved block of wood

Omar Rodriguez (Rula)I really liked Omar’s artistic style in his paintings and charcoal drawing. His creations are typically in grayscale, but he does explore with vivid and vibrant colors that really expand and emphasize his capabilities. One way you could tell if a painting has been done by Omar is by the smooth texture, the flow of the shapes and the movement. His paintings and other works also narrate stories and tales. He seems to take simple objects such as stones and make them look interesting and artistically appealing.
I really like the colors and the contrast in this painting. There are so many fine details in the bark and in the leaves and stones.I especially like the shadowing and the 3D effect that Rodriguez has established in this painting. You can also read in some subtext in this painting. It seems that all of these miscellaneous items are so different and scattered across the page, yet they seem to go together and create a finished piece.
Some of his portraits and other famous works.

Cubism
• Early Cuism:
- Hard edges
- Bright colours
- Flattened space
- Less expression of emotion
- More intellectual experiment with structure
• Three women, autumn 1907-1908
Cubism
• Analytical Cubism
- Took away bright colours
- Replaced with earthy colours
- More rearrangement of structure
- Capture more then one perspective in art
- Capture different moments in time in one painting
• Ambroise Voilard 1910
Cubism
• Synthentic cubism
- Developed after being bored from Analytical Cubism
- Art created from many collages
- Very controversial changes
• Harlequin 1918
Mary Cassat (Neelum)
Dominantly painted the bond between mothers and children
Painting style
Short brush strokes, bright colors, layering & lack of detail.
Why I like her work
• While the colors in her a lot of her paintings are darker, the paintings still have a happy feel to them.
• Most of the paintings have a mother and child, making them really comforting to view.

AlinaGwenn Seemel
Realistic anatomy of human figure with unrealistic but colourful and cartoon-like shading. Use of cross hatching, textures and shapes (squares and rectangles) to shade (ex. Red squarish skin and multicoloured hair). Not much blending of paint.
Background undetailed with patterns (ex. hair clips) and square brush strokes and gradient.
Gwenn first interviews the subject and takes photos of the model during the interview (informal and easygoing, gets to know the subject).
Likely starts off with simple flat colour (peachy for skin, brown for hair), then adds shading and texture bit by bit, layer by layer.

0/my-dream.html
• Using water color, in the link above she describes precisely her techniques used to create this effect.
• First she draws lines in pencil really lightly, and erases irrelevant one
• Next, she uses one color in light washes then adds on layers of colors. She tries to use colors that are of similar hues.

Bio & Stylean Irish-born British figurative painter
He began painting during his early 20s and worked
only sporadically until his mid 30s.
His breakthrough came with the 1944 triptych
Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a
Crucifixion, and it was this work and his heads and
figures that sealed his reputation as a notably bleak
chronicler of the human condition.
known for his bold, austere, graphic and
emotionally raw imagery. Bacon's painterly but
abstract figures typically appear isolated in glass or
steel geometrical cages set against flat, nondescript
backgrounds
