Brief: Design the layout for multiple IPA Review articles.

I designed several articles for the March 2014 edition of the IPA Review whilst at

Charles Elena. I was required to read and fully comprehend each article in order

to establish an appropriate concept. I then laid out each article in entirety.

Brief: Create a website skin for the TV show Star Wars Rebels.

For the Star Wars Rebels skin, I was given all graphic elements from the

client, which needed to be arranged to comply with the MiniClip website’s

requirements. The placement of each element needed to be “pixel perfect”, in

order to maximise viewability for a variety of screen sizes.

Brief: Design an infographic for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute

website displaying statistics for “Depression in Mothers”.

Using a simple, warm colour palette and soft graphics, I created a design

concept which would help to present a difficult subject in a way that was

easy to digest.

BASED ON THE FINDINGS...it is likely that current systems of maternal mental health will miss more than half the women experiencing depression in the early years of parenting.

MATERNAL DEPRESSION Is more common at four years after the birth of a first child than at

any other time in the first 12 months postpartum, according to new

research by Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.

THE STUDY OF OVER

1500

WOMEN

Women with one child at the four year follow up had a more than two-fold risk of reporting depressive symptoms, compared to women with two or more children. Researchers say this is partly explained by greater levels of social adversity, for instance family break ups.

“THIS IS THE FIRST LARGE STUDY... to report the prevalence over time of maternal depression from pregnancy to four years postpartum. The findings show the extent of depression affecting first time mothers, even up to four years after the birth of their child.”

“THE FACT THAT ALMOST ONE IN THREE...first time mothers reported depression at least one occasion from early pregnancy to four years post birth, coupled with the finding that the prevalence of depression symptoms was highest at four years, there needs to be a rethink of screening and mental health surveillance of mothers.“

Found the number of women suffering from postnatal depression is at its peak four years after the birth of a child, and women with one child at four years postpartum report significantly higher levels of depressive symptoms than women with subsequent children.

Brief: Create brand identity, packaging and promotional material for a new beer.

The wolf and crow represent nature and purity - the ethos of the brand. The

minimalist style and nature theme of the associated collateral serve to reinforce

this philosophy. There is no clutter, no fuss. Nothing to contaminate the product.

It’s pure, clean and crisp. Like the beer.

Brief: Create a logo for Wholesale SMS, a budget SMS service, which

would look simple and modern, depicting a cheap yet reliable service.

This project demonstrates my ability to work with the client and achieve the

ideal outcome for them. Multiple concepts were presented and after some

productive communication, I revised the concept to the final design which

the client was very happy with.

Brief: Create an interactive application which educates a teenage

audience about world famous gem stones.

Gem stones are valuable, slick and classy. To mimic this feel, I chose modern,

stylish typefaces, high quality textures and deep, bold colours. The gems partially

hide away from view when they are not hovered over in order to keep the pages

clean. Hiding them also encourages interaction, engaging a younger audience.

Brief: Create a promotional campaign for the NMIT Graduate Exhibition,

including poster, brochure, invite, and an item of your choice.

Graduation is a time of celebration. Moving on to bigger and better things. So

why do so many people wish they could return to study? The concept of this

campaign asks the question “Which way is up?”. A profound colour palette and

bold lines catch the eye, and the abstract nature of the symbol arouses curiosity.

Brief: Update the design of an existing mobile web application for a promotion

of ABB, and create an accompanying counter card and shelf wobbler.

Adapting from another designer’s work, I updated graphics, text and layout of

the mobile web app. I then designed a shelf wobbler and counter card using the

same branding and graphic elements for print.

large images. It’s a bold and adventurous creation, designed to pique a

younger audience’s interest.

Purpose: To develop digital design skills and knowledge.

I designed the layout of this iPhone application with the intention of further

developing my skills and knowledge of app design. I created branding for

the fictional “Orwell Theatre Company” and produced an app design which

complimented the colours and shape of the logo.
