Venue: Pairc Ui Rinn, Weather: Sunny, Throw-in: 11:07

Hello, this is Darragh O’Neill, (age 12) and I’m reporting on the

Scial na Scoil Boys Division 2 Football Final, with Clonakilty going

up against Beaumont. Being the final, it was a very heated affair,

with the Clon end of the stand roaring, ‘We, we, we are we, we, are

Scoil na Buachaillí!’ Beaumont were quieter. As the match warmed

up, with all the players called out, everyone was itching for action.

As the match began, the first seven minutes were scoreless. Adam

Hunt opened the score with a point, with Dean Harte following up

with a goal for Clon. The match went on, with a few people slipping

and falling. On 11:17, Owen Ferguson scored a point for Clon. The

match went on without events until 11:24, where Hunt tackled a

Beaumont player, fouling him in the process. The ref got rather an-

gry, and booked Hunt, the first booking of the campaign. After four

minutes of extremely scary situations for Clon, Beaumont scored a

point at 11:28, opening their scoring. Half time came one minute

later. Beaumont scored a phantom point somewhere in the first half,

bringing the half time score to 1-2 to 2 points.

While Hunt was injured, a Beaumont player took some of Clon’s

water, leading the water boy for Clon being yelled at by a statisti-

cian. Restart was at 11:35, with Harte scoring a goal at 11:37

amongst a flurry of players. Although Ferguson thought he scored a

point a few seconds later, it turned out to be wide. After a Beaumont

point a minute later, something very controversial happened. On

11:39, Michael Mensah was running for the Beaumont goal, when

he was suddenly assaulted by three Beaumont players. To the anger

of the Clon side, the ref gave a free to Beaumont, rather than Clon.

At first, it seemed like they converted from the unfair free, but it was

wide. Brian White then hit a point to counter a few seconds later. On

11:41, Conor Daly then scored a goal for Clon, extending Clon’s

lead to six points. However, Beaumont wouldn’t let that stand, scor-

ing another goal a few seconds later.

For the next six minutes, players slipped, balls were cleared away,

and the ref made a bad decision or two. Finally, at 11:47, Harte

scored a point for Clon, than scoring a follow-up two minutes later.

Full time was drawing in, and Beaumont were desperate. On 11:50,

Clon’s goalkeeper, Craig McDermott, got a bit careless, letting in a

cheap goal for Beaumont. In the last five minutes, nothing notewor-

thy happened, and the final whistle was blown at 11:55. Clon’s subs

and reserves charged onto the pitch in delight, while the Beaumont

players crumbled down in sadness. After Clon was finished jumping

for joy, the two teams then proceeded to receive their medals in the

stands. Clonakilty are now Division 2 champions, promoted up to

Division 1. Beaumont were close, but just failed. This is Darragh

O’Neill, and I hope you enjoyed the report. Goodbye!

Final score: Clonakilty 3-5 to Beaumont 2-3.

First of all, I would like to

the Mr. O’Brien for training

us from the very start, he is

a brilliant trainer and

coach. Thank you so much also for arranging so many challengmatches at night and

at the weekend. To Darragh O’Neill who was a brilliant assistant manager and statis-

tician. To Killian Williamson who was great to be there to help Mr. O’Brien and the

team to prepare for matches and warming up. Thank you to Mairéad Coombes for

going to every match and for preparing the banners. We were very lucky to have the

support of so many parents and teachers for also going to the matches if they did not

go we would have had to pay for a bus but this way we didn’t need to. To Mr.

O’Riordan and Mr. Duke for helping Mr. O’Brien pick the team. The team for being

there for every match and training. Last but not least Mr. Harrington for being there

throughout the season and encouraging us.

Many thanks to Noel O’Callaghan for sponsoring the socks for the boys, to the Parent’s Asso-

ciation for paying for the boys to go to Billies after the match, to the anonymous donor who

supplies refreshments for the boys and finally to Mark Coombes for his fabulous photographs

and slideshow. Thanks also to Rosscarbery GAA, Ardfield GAA and Ballinascarthy GAA for

the challenge matches. More photos with Colm Cooper on pages 15

It would be so much safer if you did not bring children across

the road by the hand at 3.00 p.m. often crossing between cars and

traffic, which can be dangerous and may even encourage another

child to attempt the same on his own with possible disastrous con-

sequences.

Please, always use the

wardens, when on duty

and, at the very least, the

zebra crossing which is

there for this purpose.

Thank you.

What is the Remembrance

Tree?

The Remembrance Tree is an

opportunity to remember your

love ones in a special way this

Christmas.

For just €10 you can add your

light to the tree. Each subsequent

light will cost just €5 e.g. one

light €10, 2 lights €15, 3 lights

€20 etc.

Your light can now be purchased

from Scoil na mBuachaillí or

from any member of the Parents’

Association. In December, the lights will be on sale on the streets

of Clonakilty. The cards can be seen on page 13 / 14 of this

Links and on our photos site.

Spirit of Christmas

This year as last year, Spiller’s Lane will be converted into a Beth-

lehem scene. The tree will be here as will a crib and many more

surprises.

Thank you very much to Colette Twomey for her support.

What are the funds for?

The funds raised by this venture are being used for our new exten-

sion (i.e. to pay back the money borrowed for our fabulous exten-

sion) and for a local Charity. The local Charity this year is West

Cork Rapid Response.

Thanks to this tree - all children are being taught in permanent

accommodation!

And........ If you are free to sell lights between 8th of December

and Christmas (for approx. two hours) please contact Thelma at

the school - 8834487.

Lighting Up Ceremony

The Lighting up Ceremony will be held on Friday 6th of Decem-

ber, in Spiller’s Lane at 8.00 p.m.

First Holy Communion: 24th of May, 2013.

Children who were baptised outside of the parish of

Clonakilty will have to send in a copy of their Baptis-

mal Certificate (unless you have already done so).

Please send in these certificates as soon as you can.

Children in other classes who have not sent in their

Baptismal Certificate can do so at any time – it will be

photocopied and the original returned immediately. For

children in Junior Infants it is the ideal opportunity to

locate and send in your Baptismal Certificate – we

won’t have to ask for it ever again.

about the debate we took part in recently. Scoil na

tion. The adjudicator was Mr. O’ Regan. The

members of my team were Dan Peet and Liam

Crowley. We were preparing for the debate for a

few weeks. There was great excitement on the

bus! As they led us to our table we noticed there

was a jug of water and glasses on the table. We

felt very special. In the end, after an excellent debate, we

won. We were delighted and very proud.

After the debate, they gave us hot chocolate with cream and

marshmallows. The vice principal gave us a football and

told us we could play on the pitch. What a treat!! On the

way home we had great fun. This is Diarmuid Caverly and

hopefully we’ll meet again after the next debate….. and fi-

nally thanks to Ms. Fitzmaurice and Ms. O’Shea.
