Spirit of Cricket
Belmont School is fully supporting The EWCB “Spirit of the Game” programme.
Spirit of Cricket
Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.
Responsibility of CaptainsThe captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws.
The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for:• Your opponents• Your own captain and team• The role of the umpires• The game’s traditional values
It is against the Spirit of the Game:• To dispute an umpire’s decision by word, action or gesture• To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire• To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance• Appeal knowing the batsman is not out• Advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing• Seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent
clapping or• Unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one’s own
side.
Player’s Conduct
• Should applaud positive play. • Should respect the umpire’s decision. • Should applaud in and out the opposition batsman.• Should shake hands at the end of each match.

Rules
All teams will play 3 matches in a round-robin tournament format 8-a-side matches. Maximum Squads of 11 players. Teams cannot be changed during a game, with the
exception of injury. Matches will be 8 overs per side. Bowled from 1 end (Selected by the fielding team at
the start of play) Each player bowls 1 over, with the exception of the wicketkeeper who selects someone
to bowl a bonus over. Wide’s will count as 2 runs and no extra ball will be bowled, apart from the final over
when normal rules apply. Before an innings batting teams will inform the scorer when they wish to play their
power play over. In this over runs are doubled including extras. All other rules of cricket apply. 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. In the event of a tie for positions in the group, the result between the sides involved will
decide the winner. If teams are still tied then the total number of runs scored will determine the winners followed by the fewest number of wickets lost in the competition.
I would invite everyone to stay for the Presentations, which will be held at the pavilion at around 12:30 pm.
