GLOBETROTTING ONLINE

The next best thing to being there, traveling online is a good way to get away. Many of the world’s tourist destinations are using technology so that virtual travelers can tour and interact with locales. Here’s a sample of some digital tours:

• AUSTRALIA’S GREAT BARRIER REEF AttenboroughsReef.com

• ACROPOLIS OF ATHENS AcropolisVirtualTour.gr

• PERU’S MACHU PICCHU YouVisit.com/tour/MachuPicchu

Use the search terms “virtual tour” with the names of other famous places, and you’ll likely find they offer online experiences. There are tours of the Eiffel Tower, Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, and the Egyptian pyramids. NASA even has out-of-this-world trips to the International Space Station and explorations of other solar systems.

RECAP: HOW WE STAYED CONNECTED THIS MONTH

returning to the new normalWe are so very thankful to have you all back in the community! Even though we were off to a somewhat slow start, we were able to start offering activities again. We started in small groups and are slowing increasing the size. We were able to offer activities such as Walking Club, Bingo, Poetry on the Patio, and Smoothing Over Mondays. We are looking froward to the day that we can resume all of the activities that are enjoyed by our residents.

THIS MONTH’S heart heroHOSPITALITY, EXCELLENCE, APPRECIATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK

As many of you know, RENEE, one of our friendly faces at the Concierge Desk, was married in June! She wanted everyone to know that her day was beautiful even though there was a bit of rain in the morning prior to ceremony. “Ceremony started a little late because we had to have the chairs dried off but everything was perfect.” Rain on your wedding day is rumored to be good luck and here are a few reasons why.

 •  FERTILITY: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that you will have children. This belief came about since rain ultimately waters the ground and leads to fertility, thus allowing growth of plants and vegetation. This was always a big deal in communities based around agriculture.

 •  CLEANSING AND RENEWAL: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies the cleansing of tough times or sadness in your past.

 •  UNITY: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that your marriage will last. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie — therefore, when you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is supposedly just as hard to unravel! We can thank Hindu traditions for this belief.

Renee, from all of us at Bellevue Retirement Community, we wish you much love and happiness in your marriage!

IT’S OUR PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU … word from your leadership teamLAUGHTER LOUNGE

We thought each of you could use a few small laughs to start off this month.

HOW CAN YOU TELL WHEN A VAMPIRE IS SICK? By how much he is coffin.

WHY DID THE SCARECROW WIN AN AWARD? Because he was outstanding in his field.

HOW DO PICKLES ENJOY A DAY OUT? They relish it.

DON’T ACCEPT ANY FRIEND REQUESTS FROM TACO BELL. THEY’RE NACHO FRIEND.

WHY DID THE BICYCLE COLLAPSE? It was two tired.

We hope that you enjoyed these jokes as much as we did!
