Teacher’s viewpoint:
Exceptional learning environments
State-of-the-art learning technologies bring education to a new level, engaging students in new ways of learning that are both exciting and effective.
Technology for ClassroomsIn the classroom we use interactive white boards that enable teachers to share online resources and software specifically designed for each individual subject. Electronic handsets for stating opinions make lectures interactive, enabling teachers to post questions and elicit responses at key points of the lessons.
Technology for StudyingOur online Learning Management System, StudySmart, enables students to access learning materials at any time. Students can review their class work, listen to audio files, watch videos and make use of the materials their teachers use in class. This opportunity to consolidate their learning in an engaging online environment helps to ensure success in assessed coursework and the final exams.
E-Learning ExpertiseOur team of Advanced Practitioners ensures that only the most effective technology is used in class, and that all our teachers are properly trained in how to make the most of new learning technologies. This specialist team of e-learning teachers provides training and support to their colleagues across the curriculum.
InnovationThrough the work of its Advanced Practitioner network Bellerbys is at the cutting edge of the development of learning technologies. From the use of e-portfolios in pre-GCSE classes to the use of mobile devices in language learning, (m-learning) Bellerbys uses the latest available technology to innovate classroom practice. In 2012, innovation focussed on developing an app to support vocabulary learning via a partnership with leading European universities under the EU Lifelong Learning programme.
Perfect Preparation for UniversityIndependent study skills are critical for success at university and using an online Learning Management System is a key part of studying at university. When submitting assignments online, students can make use of plagiarism highlighting software to develop an understanding of the importance of independent work and of acknowledging the work of others – vital skills for successful university-level studies.

Bellerbys taught me to study independently. It has made me a much more responsible person – not just academically. From bank accounts to gym memberships I have more control over my life and therefore more responsibility. Bellerbys is a great and safe environment to learn in and I think it would be very hard to study here and not achieve your goals.
I found it very exciting studying with classmates from different countries because we all had different opinions, knowledge and backgrounds and sharing them was an amazing experience. I also enjoyed my time at the school residence. There, I made close friends and it made my life at Bellerbys even more enjoyable and vibrant.

Homestay accommodation
visit bellerbys.com 7574 Bellerbys Campus Information: Homestay accommodation
If you want to live a relatively independent life, but still have a caring home environment, Homestay is ideal.
Homestay gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in UK culture and to feel part of a family, eating meals and sharing their lives to get a real experience of British life. All Homestay accommodation is carefully chosen for the security and friendliness it provides and we make regular visits to ensure you have everything you need. We offer a choice of either single or shared rooms. All our hosts will warmly welcome you into their homes.
Included in all Homestay accommodation• Fully equipped study bedroom, including
desk and wardrobe• Breakfast and evening meal from Monday
to Friday with a breakfast and main meal (lunch or dinner) at weekends
• Telephone access• Weekly laundry
Homestay ExtraHomestay extra retains all the benefits of the homestay experience detailed above, but offers the additional feature to the student of a private bathroom.
Homestay Plus – under 16If you are under 16 years of age, you will be automatically registered for Homestay Plus.(Note: Homestay is only available in London to students who are 16 years old or above).
This gives extra support and higher levels of personal supervision. A detailed care plan will be prepared for you, focusing on class, personal study and curfew times as well as dietary and medical issues. A copy of the care plan will be sent to your parents/guardians, so they know you’re in good hands. Homestay Plus gives extra pastoral care, liaising regularly with the college, and giving extra support to you when you need it.
SharingYou have an option to share your room with another student. Many students find this a very good way to ease the transition of living away from home. They often find it easier to settle in, and benefit from making friends with their new room-mate.
LocationWe aim to place you in Homestays that are as close to our centres as possible. However in some cases, this may involve some travel to the centre, usually by bus or train. This a great way to see more of the city you’re living in.

Once we have received your confirmation payment, we will send you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is a visa requirement, together with your accommodation details (usually only sent on receipt of arrival details).

However, fee increases may become necessary from time to time in order to maintain standards and will become effective immediately they are notified to parents. The course fees are payable termly. If payments become overdue, the College reserves the right to suspend or cancel tuition and /or to charge interest on the balance at the rate of 2% above the base rate of NatWest bank per month or part thereof. Fees remain payable if Notice of Withdrawal has not been given in accordance with these conditions. Please note that although students may leave College after their examinations in November or June, tuition and accommodation fees will not be reduced or refunded.
Provision of tuitionIf a particular subject is under-subscribed, the College reserves the right to provide a smaller number of hours’ tuition or private tuition for the same fee or by giving one terms written notice to either change or end the course. The College may give one term’s written notice to either change or end a course without refund in the event of any circumstance arising or occurring which the College at its reasonable discretion deems to necessitate such action.
Scholarships and Other DiscountsPoor performance or attendance or a change of course can lead to withdrawal of a scholarship or other discounts.
Academic criteriaStudents who do not perform satisfactorily in their coursework will not be entered for external public examinations by the College. Students who do not yet meet university criteria for English Language proficiency will be expected to take an appropriate English Language course at the College.Students are accepted into the College on the strict understanding that progression through the course is conditional upon satisfactory and required attendance and successful attainment of prescribed performance targets. Students are formally assessed at least twice a year. The assessment will take into consideration: Course work; internal college examination results; attendance; effort in class and in homework; public examination potential. Students who do not meet the attainment criteria will not be allowed to proceed with their original course but will be offered an alternative course or invited to withdraw from the College without refund.
Criteria for the one year A Level course The A Level course length is normally six terms (September start) or five terms (January or April start). Applications for the one year (three term) September start course are accepted only if:• Students have completed a year or more of study at degree level in their
home country, or• Students are repeating the A Level course, or• Students can demonstrate an outstandingly high standard of work at
High School level (to be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the principal).Students unsure of their qualifications should contact the Admissions Department for assessment. Students enrolled on a three term A Level course are accepted on the strict understanding that their progress will be reviewed at key stages including the end of the first term. The College reserves the right to require a longer course or change of course in light of that review.
Accident & medical insuranceIt is necessary that all students have appropriate accident and medical insurance. Students must either take out our own StudyCare insurance policy or provide proof of adequate cover at enrolment. Cover under the StudyCare insurance policy does not commence until the insurance fees have been paid in full, which are non-refundable. Please ensure that you bring with you any relevant medical records, eg. immunisation records, that will assist local medical staff when treating you for any medical condition.
WithdrawalOnce a student has arrived in the UK, a minimum of one term’s notice (in writing) is required, or payment in lieu, whether or not the student continues to attend lessons. Students following the English Language Preparation courses are automatically enrolled to progress on to an academic programme. The student must therefore give the standard term’s notice if they do not wish to progress further at the College. If withdrawal is due to refusal of a visa extension then less notice may be accepted (at the College’s discretion) as long as full written details are provided before a course recommences. Students should be aware of the legal implications of their visa status should they decide to leave the college before completion of their course.Where withdrawal is due to illness, if the student has taken out our comprehensive StudyCare plan insurance scheme (details of which are available on request), subject to the terms of the scheme the student may be able to claim a refund. Notice of withdrawal must be given in writing and is effective from the date it is received by the College.
Colleges’ organisational policiesEach college has policies on admissions, bullying, child protection, curriculum, discipline, health & safety, promotion of good behaviour, sanctions in cases of bad behaviour, complaints and exclusions – these are available on request from the Principal of each college.
