• Relying on ancient tribal custom, Muhammad’s loyal friend (amigo fiel) Abu-Bakrwas chosen as caliph (califa)
• Three more caliphs were chosen after Abu-Bakr
• These four caliphs are called the “Rightly Guided Caliphs” (Califas ortodoxos) because they all personally knew Muhammad (personalmentesabía Muhammad)
