BACKGROUND

With a background in Interdisciplinary Design Strategy and Design Management from Toronto and Dubai, I have a obtained a broad spectrum of the design industry. I have studied, worked, and visited 16 countries experiencing multicultural diversity. My international experience as a global citizen has given me an advantage as a strategic design manager to tackle design solutions with a global vantage point which is often reflected through my work and creative analytical skills.

EXHIBIT DESIGN

Universally Local Exhibition 2010This exhibit is the physical manifestation to a prolonged 9 months design research on Urban City Systems as part of the Institute without Boundaries with Toronto Community Housing. I was able to manage the budget and production of the exhibit that included the structure, lighting, print, and the 3D model. The exhibit was a great success, and was advertised in Azure magazine.

URBAN PLANNING

Flemingdon Park Revitalization Proposal 2010As part of the City Systems project at the Institute without Boundaries, we were given a challenge to work with our Toronto Community Housing to redevelop a local neighborhood in Toronto. After rigorously researching the community, the neighborhood context, conducting various community and client meetings, and working with industry professionals, we developed an innovative sustainable plan that was communicated through client presentations and two publications.

BRANDING

Rebranding StonecAs part of my design management education, I was asked to chose a company and rebrand their logo, then apply the design through an Ad campaign. My client was Stonec, a handtools company based in Germany. My intention for the rebranding was to give the company a strong trustworthy visual image and promote the company not only to businesses, but also to DIY consumer markets.

PRODUCT/PACKAGING DESIGN

BILLY Desk ClockIn support of sustainable product design, and based on research that states over 40% of consumer waste is derived from product packaging, I developed this concept clock in which the packaging becomes the product, resulting in 0% waste package waste.

YOUR GUIDE TO DUBAI

MEDIA/DVD DESIGN

Exciting, colorful and joyful, yet distinctly Arabian, Dubai's splendor lies in its contrasts. Its extravagant hotels and surreal luxury are primarily why the international spotlight is now on Dubai, yet it seems only natural to reintroduce this wonderful city as a destination that will cost you only a fraction of what any similar trip elsewhere would probably cost. Not only is everything cheaper, but the fact that bargaining is a very integral part of life in Dubai, makes it even more luring to set out on shopping binges, and still have more money left to treat yourself to an adventurous desert safari.

Everything is a bus ride away, from the sizzle of the beach, to the dazzle of an art exhibit. Witness dubai will be an eyeopener on how you can be streetwise in your next visit to Dubai. Not only that, but this video will give you a tour through what only the locals know, from scrumptious ethnic cuisines to the “most luxurious youth hostel in the world”! Along with excellent commentary and tips, you will definitely find this documentary helpful in revealing how to make the most of this breathtaking city.

Dubai Tourism DVDAfter researching Dubai’s tourism market, we developed a concept for a DVD aimed at a specific target audience. The DVD portrays Dubai as a multicultural, active, and financially approachable city to visit. The project included on-site photography, design, and a written design brief.

Riqaa Style

History

Riqaa style was developed only 147 years ago by Mumtas Bik under the rule of Sultan Abdul Majid during the Ottoman empire. This makes it the newest Arabic font developed. see (fig.1)

As literacy grew in Arabia, the need for a useful practical font that can be used for everyday life and to be writ-ten with facility and rapidity. In response, Sultan Abdul Majid ordered the calligrapher Mumtas to design a new font that meets this specific crite-ria, to make an easy and simple writ-ing style that any ordinary person can learn and use.

Writing Riqaa

Riqaa style is like handwriting. It is the most used style now adays in Arabic writing. Riqaa became simplified, unlike other styles, it is rounded and densely structured with short hori-zontal stems. All Riqaa letters are to be written above the line except for six letters which are (geem, ha, kha, een, gha and meem).

when writing riqaa, we do not include any decorative elements or tashkeel. It stands alone as a typical handwrit-ing. Riqaa is broken into three elementary shapes that shape all the 28 letters see (fig.2). By mastering these three shapes, one could easily learn how to write Riqaa.
