The first meeting of the EMMA project partners

was the kick-off of Petrignano del Lago - Umbria,

on the 27th and 28th of July 2010. On that

occasion, the general rules of the Med

Programme were also outlined.

1st STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING – SINES

The main results of the meeting were the following:

The 9 and 10 December 2010, was held in Sines, Portugal,

the first Steering Committee of the Emma Project. On that

occasion the partners were able to compare various

technical and financial aspects of the project with particular

attention to the first Progress Report, to the use of the

system Presage and Procedures Manual.

Another important session of the meeting was then devoted

to the presentation and discussion regarding the

public/private roundtables and, in addition, much attention

has been dedicated to the communication aspects of the

project, including implementation of EMMA project website

and newsletters planning. Moreover, activities regarding the

next steps of the project were discussed, with particular

attention to the second Steering Committee and the second

Progress Report.

The website of EMMA Project,

www.emmamed.eu, wants to be a promotional

and information tool. The site was specifically

developed to be easy to use and, therefore,

will be available in each of the four languages

of the partner countries, as well as English.

The site clearly illustrates the purpose of the

project, the activities to be carried out and

provides also the contacts of all partners to

turn to for more information.

Moreover, it is possible to download the

newsletter of EMMA updated with all the latest

news on the state of progress of the project. In

addition, the site has a section devoted

entirely to clarify who are the recipients of the

2nd STEERING COMMETTEE MEETING - ROMADuring the meeting of Rome, held 3 March 2011, with the participation of all project partners, the partners have

treated both the management aspects of the project and those related to the communication.

The Region Umbria, as Lead partner, has put the focus on the next project deadlines and obligations also with

reference to the financial state of the art, to First Level Control and Monitoring & Evaluation Analysis of the

project. During the meeting, Adral partner took stock of public/private roundtables and presented the Guidelines

index, while Sviluppumbria explained the Start-up and ways of coordination of Guidance Points.

Sviluppumbria also presented several communication tools of the project, website, newsletters, etc ..., which

have been approved by all partners. The meeting ended with the updating of the Executive Internal Manual and

the approval of deadlines and steps for the next six months of the project.

During the first months of the project various

roundtables public/private were organized in each

partner country. From these meetings between

entrepreneurship experts, representatives of

administrations and future women entrepreneurs

emerged several interesting elements for the

development and the support of female

entrepreneurship. In particular, it was pointed out

that:

One of the main obstacles encountered in the

development of female entrepreneurs is access to to

credit, frequently there is a refusal to grant loans to

women and this, in fact, prevents the start of a

business.

A key factor in the decision of starting a business is

related to taxation. In this regard, consideration

should be given to appropriate systems of tax relief

for female entrepreneurs.

It is found to be essential information and knowledge

of programs and initiatives for women entrepreneurs

who can support women in their business activities.

Because of the economic crisis, governments should

support women start their own business considering

their unique aspects and favoring female enterprises

in their start-up period.

It is important to highlight what emerged from the

roundtables, namely that female enterprises not only

create jobs but provide new solutions and

development opportunities to the society, thereby

strengthening the economy of the country in which

they are located. Consequently encourage women

entrepreneurs means enriching society and

contribute improving the community.
