Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, enjoyed some great food, and had a merry time with friends and fami-ly. New Year’s is also about resolutions.
Being Alive is making some New Year resolutions for improved ser-vices, new programs and a new vision for our future. In the next few weeks, Being Alive will reveal our new “Values Statements” from the input of many community stakeholders during the month of October. We will also be revealing our new mission statement defin-ing our role and commitment to our community.
The key words for 2016 are commitment and accountability. This includes our members resolving to be committed to do their part. Starting this month, all social activities that members sign up for such as social event field trips, tickets to events, and appointments require a “commitment”.
Last year, two field trips had a bus full of sign-ups. When the bus left for the event, it was only half full, leaving many who wanted to go but could not because the slots were re-served. That meant most on the waiting list could have easily attended the event previously reserved by someone. Because the City of West Hollywood pays for the bus, that was mon-ey that could have been saved and spent on other programs.
So here are some of the new policies effective in 2016:
Social Event Bus Trips require a $2 nonrefundable reservation service fee. Cancella-tions must be made 48 hours in advance unless you have a medical emergency. No-shows for reserved seats will forfeit the ability to attend the next social event field trip.
Ticketed events require a reservation. Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance un-less you have a medical emergency. Failure to pick-up tickets will result in forfeiting ability to attend the next two ticketed events.
Wellness Appointments (i.e., acupuncture, hypnotherapy, etc.) requires cancellations made 48 hours in advance unless you have a medical emergency. A $5 re-instatement fee will be required.
Sculptra Appointment requires cancellations made 48 hours in advance unless you have a medical emergency. A $100 re-instatement fee will be required.
Obviously, we will make exceptions for extenuating circumstances. But our goal is to make sure all of our client-members have equal access to services and programs. The all-new Being Alive is committed to improving services for our members.
Be Well,
FROM THE DESK OF GARRY GEORGE BOWIE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

January 4: A Home At The End Of The World (2004) - Two
childhood friends face their past relationships, including their own, alongside
a new friend in the 1980's in New York City. Their friendship becomes a love
triangle as they struggle with a father's death and an unexpected pregnancy.
Together, they shall face each other as they realize that everything they
have may not be what they expected.
January 11: The Ritz(1976) - On his deathbed Carmine Vespucci's
father tells him to "get Proclo". With "the hit" on, Gaetano tells a cab driver to take him where Carmine can't find him. He arrives at the Ritz, a gay bath-house where he is pursued amorously by "chubby chaser" Paul B. Price and by entertainer Googie Gomez who believes him to be a broadway producer.
His guides through the Ritz are gatekeeper Abe, habitue Chris, and bellhop/go-go-boys Tiger and Duff. Squeaky-voiced detective Michael Brick and his employer Carmine do locate Gateano at the Ritz, as does his wife Vivian.
