Acts 9:19–20 Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.

Acts 13:22-23 22After removing Saul, he (i.e. God) made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ 23“From this man’s (i.e. David’s) descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

John Ortberg:If you want a sense of mission to burn brightly in you, spend some time feeding your divine discontent.

“Generally the kind of work God calls you to is work:(a) That you need to do, AND(b) That the world needs to have done.

If you really get a kick out of your work, you’re presumably met requirement (a). But if your work is writing cigarette ads, the chances are you’ve missed requirement (b).

On the other hand, if your work is being a doctor in a leper colony, you have probably met requirement (b). But if you’re bored and depressed by it, the chances are you haven’t met requirement (a), and you probably aren’t helping your patients much either.

BEING MISSIONAL means choosing to enter our world and fulfil God’s

purpose for us in our world in our generation
