    Mr. Ferrells Classroom Management Plan

    Dear Second Grade Parents,

The goal of the classroom management programs that will be implemented in ourclassroom during the 2013-2014 school year will ensure that learning is at the forefront of all

classroom experiences, rather than having inappropriate behaviors negatively impact the

learning that will take place. This year, students will be encouraged through the use of positive

reinforcement for appropriate behaviors and will be given natural consequences for

    inappropriate behaviors.

    Gator Golds

Students will be given Gator Golds by any Gombert staff member when they are observed

following the 3 Bes. The 3 Bes are Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. This is aschool-wide behavior management system. Students will be bringing home a small certificate to

communicate to you why they received this reward. Please be aware that students will only

receive this certificate for going above and beyond the set expectations. The hope is that

students will take pride in their behavioral achievements and will continue to make good choices

    throughout the school year.

    Clip Chart

The clip chart is a behavior management system that promotes positive behavior among

students. Each student's name is placed on a clothespin and clipped to a chart located in thefront of the room. There are seven categories which include: Ready to Learn, Good Day, Great

Job, Outstanding, Think About It, Teachers Choice and Parent Contact. Each student begins

their day on Ready to Learn. Throughout the day students have the opportunity to move their

clip up the clip chart by following the classroom expectations. When students do this, they will

be asked to clip up by the classroom teacher. Students who do not follow the expectations

will, respectfully, be asked to clip down. The Think About It level of the clip chart will serve

as a warning and reminder to make better choices.

If their misbehavior continues, the student will be asked to move their clip down to

Teachers Choice and will be asked to reflect on their choices. When this occurs, a student may

be given a Behavior Reflection note to fill out and take home to their parents. The teacher also

has the option of giving the student a reflection break. If this occurs, the student will be asked

to take his or her work to a designated area for approximately 7-8 minutes. After this time,

they will return to their desk. The last category on the clip chart is Parent Contact. If a child

has to move their clip to this section of the chart the parents will be contacted by phone.

Students may redeem themselves by showing appropriate behavior. If this occurs they

are allowed to move back up the chart; however; they will still receive the consequence for

being on Teachers Choice or Parent Contact. Each child will be encouraged to do their very

best. It will be communicated to each student that everyone makes mistakes. It is what we do

after we have made those mistakes that matters the most. It is all about CHOICES! For more

information regarding this behavior management system please go to

    Whole Class Incentives

I also believe in the importance of the class working together as a collaborative team tobuild a positive daily classroom environment. Students will be awarded marbles for appropriate

hallway behavior and behavior during Specials. When an adult at Gombert notices students

walking quietly in the hallway and gives the class a compliment, the students will earn a marble

to place in the marble jar. During Specials, students earn points for their behavior. The number

of points earned is consistently communicated to me by the Specials teachers. Upon our return

to the classroom, the number of points earned will be equal to the number of marbles put into

    the jar.

T.E.A. M. is an acronym that will be a focus for our class during the year. This acronym

stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Students will be placed on different teamsthroughout the year (i.e. Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox or Bulls) and will be encouraged to

be prepared for learning opportunities. If each student on the team is following the routines

and the expectations that have been set they will receive positive reinforcement for their

    behavioral choices.

I will do my best to communicate with you about your childs behavior, both positive and

negative. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make your childs second grade

    experience a positive one!

Please sign and return the section below to school with your child as soon as possible. Keep

the remainder of the letter for your reference throughout the school year. If you have any

questions, do not hesitate to call, write a note, or email!

    Thank you for your cooperation!
