PASTOR’S ARTICLE
September is upon us and we look forward to a great fall. We begin with Rally Sunday September 10. We return to our regular worship schedule at 9:00 and 11:15 with Sunday school at 10:15.
During the Sunday school hour on Rally Sunday we will bless book bags, distribute Bibles to our third graders, meet Sunday school teachers, and celebrate Grandparents day. The congregation is invited to join us for a Pancake Breakfast (pancakes, sausage, bagels, fruit, and coffee cake) during the Sunday school hour. We will take pictures of children with grandparents and enjoy breakfast.
The adult Bible studies will resume September 12 as we look at the Faces of the Reformation. Each week we will look at one person of the reformation and study the effects they had on the church. We will meet people like Lucas Cranach the elder, Andreas Bodenstein Von Karlstadt and other complicated names. Join us on the 12th at 10:00 am, and Monday’s beginning September 18.
The women of the ELCA are having a special night on September 12, as we are invited to meet Katie Luther. This is open to the congregation and should be an interesting experience as Katie’s life is dramatized before us.
October ushers in the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Special services will be held through-out the month culmination is a celebration on October 29 with one service at 10:00. This is our opportunity to give thanks for the gospel and Martin Luther who awakened the church again to the blessings of Jesus and the life he lived among us. More information will follow in next month’s newsletter.
Our full schedule for both our church and Youth are printed on separate pages in this Newsletter. Please remember schedules are subject to change.
By the way, the mortgage is paid. Celebration to follow. Pastor Wilck

Community Food Cupboard coupons
The Community Food Cupboard in downtown Rochester serves a large senior community, as well as others in emergency situations as they arise. We (The Women of the ELCA) feel that this program is another way that Our Saviour can do God’s work within the community.
I will send in coupons collected on a weekly or biweekly schedule. The Food Cupboard uses the coupons to buy the products and then distributes the products to their clients. We need to watch expiration dates carefully, thus the weekly or biweekly mailings. Coupons requested in-clude: canned goods (especially soups, as well as vegetables and fruits); peanut butter (they stressed this product); cereal products and dairy products. A box for the coupons is located on the table in the narthex.
Thank you in advance for your support of this project.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Youth Happening
Hello LYO & NG'sUS! We have an exciting and full year ahead of us. In this issue of the news letter you will find the calendar of youth events. Please look through it. We want your input. We will have time to discuss calendar during Sunday School and Youth night. Please bring your ideas and sugges-tions.
Our first youth outing for the year will be on September 17th at Altitude after the 11:15 AM service. The trampo-line park in Henrietta. Many of you have already been there, so you may already know that your parents must sign Altitude's permission slip in order for you to jump. There is a sign up sheet on the Narthex Table.
We are in need of acolytes! If you all 4th-12 graders are welcome. It is one of many ways to serve in ministry. Acolyte Training will be September 17th during Sunday School Hour. Please bring your schedule. We will be signing up to serve the second and fourth Sundays of the month. This doesn't mean you will serve every 2nd and 4th Sunday. Many hands make light work. Con-tact Mrs. Janeen with any questions.
Some new service opportunities have been added to the schedule this year. In addition to Halloween Hall, Maggie's, and Christmas Hall, we have the opportunity to participate in 30 hour famine to increase awareness of hunger and the flower city work camp which is an opportunity to join up with other youth from the synod and reach out to the Rochester city community. More details on both opportunities will be shared at the beginning of Sunday School and Youth night.
Youth night Wednesdays will kick off September 13th 6:45-8pm.
Take note of the youth worship service on March 18th. I know it seems like a long way off but we need to start gathering ideas for what you would like to do. More discussion will come throughout the year!
Also, when we last met in May, some of you expressed an interest in camp-ing. The Synod offers an excellent opportunity for us to camp in cabins with other local Lutheran youth at Sunshine Rotary Camp. Winter weekend is the first weekend in March. Please mark your calendars! It is a lot of fun!
Grace and peace
Mrs. Janeen
