our mission

the

Hello. My name is Ian McCarthy and I am the Associate Dean here at the Beedie School of Business. I would like to welcome you to our school and congratulate you on being accepted to our program. Myself, the faculty, and staff are looking forward to working with you, and we hope that you enjoy your time and journey through the School.

We pride ourselves on having some of the best faculty in the world. We are also proud that we bring the world into our classrooms; we have alumni and other leaders of the community who come in and engage with you. We also pride ourselves that we utilize case studies, simulations, games, applied projects, and field trips - that the learning is experiential.

What does experiential learning mean? Experiential learning means that you’re going to have plenty of opportunities to do things, make decisions, and that those decisions are going to have outcomes. You’re going to ask yourself: “So what?”, “Now what?”, “How do I change myself?”, “How do I change my company?” and “How do I change the world?”

In addition to experiential, Beedie learning is very collaborative. this means that we work with you and you work with us to maximize your learning experience. It’s a joint contract. Most importantly, you work with each other. You draw upon each other’s experiences and expertise, you work in teams, and you problem-solve and learn together. Collaboration is a defining element of the Beedie program experience.

Finally, I just want to say that it will be a real pleasure to meet you in person and I say this on behalf of all of the faculty and staff here at the Beedie School of Business: Welcome, have fun, respect each other, work together, good luck, and enjoy your time here at the Beedie School of Business.
