Traffic Study

The turn lane warrant analysis is complete; existing

turn lanes from Big Island Highway into high schoolwill be adequate even after middle school traffic is

added.

The following ‘Concept Plan’ shows a connection

to Otterburn Circle for emergency access only.

The following ‘Road Construction Revenue Sharing’

exhibit has been sent to VDOT to initiate the

Revenue Sharing process. No response yet from

VDOT.

Environmental

Wetland Delineation and Long Eared Bat

investigations are complete. The design team hasscheduled a Wetland Confirmation site visit with

the U.S. Corps of Engineers for April 26th

Water

Water model provided by Bedford Regional Water

Authority indicates available flow is 500 gpm at 20psi at the high school. Plumbing fixtures at middle

school will likely require a booster pump.

Discussions with Building Official Donnie Dillon

confirmed that we must comply with 2012International Building Code and NFPA 13 for fire

protection. The design team is working to

determine if the existing water system can meet

these requirements or if a water tank and pump

will be needed. Working with Rich Gardiner on

this issue.

Wastewater

The design team is evaluating the following

options: Pump station at middle school that will send wastewater

to high school pump station that will likely need

upgrades to accommodate additional flow.

Build a pump station that that will accommodate middleschool and high school. Existing high school pump

station would be removed from service.

Findings and recommendations will be presented

in the next couple weeks.
