About UsBecome A cAreer mentor with inspire, motivAte & engAge!

Giving back is extremely important to us at IME. We are the only training organisation to give 5% of our annual turnover to charity each year, as well as leading learning and development programmes that address societal issues.

Our career mentoring scheme is a volunteer programme which provides guidance and support to young unem-ployed people, and we are currently looking for new career mentors to provide advice and support.

By taking part, you will become a career mentor to a young unemployed graduate or school leaver, who is strug-gling to find employment. We match the young person’s career aspirations to your current job, so that you can share insights into the role and improve their employability skills.

An additional benefit for you taking part is that you will receive access to optional management and leadership training as part of the experience, helping you to become a beIer mentor and a more effective manager. Mean-ing that you can improve your professional skills while also giving back.

why we are helping a lost generation

Nearly 1 million young people are currently unemployed in the UK, that is approximately 1 in 5 young people and it is likely that we will all know someone in our network who will be affected by this issue.

The damage caused by youth unemployment is not only tem-porary, as evidence suggests it permanently affectsemployment and earnings potential for life.

what we are doing to help

• The IME career mentoring programme supports young people in need of career advice and support age 18-24.

• We match your current role and field of expertise to the young person’s career aspirations, allowing you to be the expert and share valuable insights into their chosen career and improve their chances of employability.

• Mentoring can be done face to face or online.

• To date, we have matched over 400 young people and 30% of these young people found employment thanks to the guidance and support of their mentor.

how it works

• structured programme - We provide you with 11 outlined-stages to complete with your young person, including

resources and activities.

• time commitment – Its very flexible, but we usually ask for 1hour per week for approximately three months.

• training – You have access to management and leadership

• Award - Each participating young person will walk away with the IME Award at the end of their mentorship, helping them to get ahead of the competition when going for interviews.

Access to management & leadership training materialshelping YoU Become A Better mentor And mAnAger.

The training is online and is designed to be self-paced so you can progress at a time that suits you. Available in bite-sized chunks, the course is highly relevant to your mentorship experience and today’s workplace, with topics and tools that are incredibly useful at all levels. Bolstering people skills, the training goes be-yond basic management skills to impart the talents needed to manage and communicate effectively. You will get to grips with aspects such as coaching, influ-encing ethically, understanding the different learning types, ownership and leadership skills.

ime AwArdThe young person you are mentoring also receives a recognised accreditation by taking part. The IME Award celebrates and recognises the young people who have participated in the IME programme. The objective of the award (which features an accredi-tation at L2) is to help the young person get a step ahead of the competition when applying for national internships and also job interviews.

our impacts

400 young people received over 6400 hours of ca-reer guidance and support

120 unemployed young people secured employmentthanks to the support of their IME mentor (30%)

95% of the mentors invited the young person into their offices to boost their self esteem and inspire them to achieve their career goals

9 out of 10 relationships still on-going aher three months equalling the highest mentoring retention rates in the country

92% of the young people reported greater confi-dence, improved performance at interview and em-ployability soft skills
