INTERNSHIPSSo, you think you want to be a …..Few things are more damaging to a student’s perception of a particular career than television. So many students enter into the internship program with these grandiose ideas of what people actually do in their jobs.

The internship program is a valuable tool to allow students to see exactly what the daily grind is like for employees. They quickly realize that every day is not fame and glory, or a life and death situation. Rather, it requires constant and continual efforts on everyone’s part in order to run a successful business.

The Work-Based Learning program is all about getting out of the classroom and experience firsthand the work environment. Also included are class seminars that teach critical workplace skills.

In addition to the seminars, students keep track of and electronically submit their hours (25 hours per term), and a journal every two weeks to keep their advisor apprised of their experiences.

The school Work-Based Learning coordinator makes a visit to the individual sites at least once during the term to ensure a safe, productive, and healthy environment for each student.

Alpine School District covers the Workman’s Compensation insurance for each non-paid intern in the program. Paid interns students are covered under their employers WC program.

Students earn elective credit toward graduation at the completion of the program. just as any other course offered at Lone Peak

1. Pick up and complete an application. Applications are available from your counselor or online).

2. Turn your completed application in to Mrs. White and discuss with her the careers you are interested in.

3. Take the approval form to your counselor who will complete the scheduling.

*Internships are available to juniors and seniors who have had or have a related class.

*Intern experiences are to be in correlation with a student’s SEOP Career Goal.
