Fund-raising - intro Fund-raising - true or false

IntroductionIf you raise money you can have even more fun in Scouting.

You can have a cake sale or a barbecue to raise money. Raising money is a way to help people and have fun.

You can help to raise money for your Colony. You can come up with ideas to raise money and help to collect it.

We’ve worked with RBS MoneySense to help us create this pack. If you want to know more about it go to www.rbs.co.uk/moneysenseforschools

Three ThIngs To do when rAIsIng money

1. Shout it loud and proud: Tell people what you are doing. If you are being sponsored have a sponsorship form with you. Tell them how much you want to raise.

2. What are you raising money for? People will want to know what it is for. So make sure you know.

3. Aim high: Try to raise as much as you can. Do your best to get friends and family to donate.

Activity: Charity true or false How much do you know about charity?

Find out with this charity true or false game.

how to do the activity

1. On one wall of your meeting room is the word ‘true’. On the other wall is the word ‘false’.

2. Your leader will read out some facts about charity. If a fact is true run to the side of the room with the word true. If a fact is false run to the side of the room with the word false. You have to make your mind up quickly.

My dad ran to raise money. It was for Children In Need. I saw him on the TV with Pudsey.

Activity: do a good turnHere is your chance to do some fundraising.

how to do the activity

1. Write the name of what you are trying to raise money for in the circles on your good turn sheet. If you want to, draw a picture in the circles instead that shows what it is.

2. A good turn is helping someone out. It could be helping with the washing-up or cleaning the house. Each time you do a good turn at home collect and tape a coin to one of the circles on the sheet.

3. Don’t forget to bring your sheet back with the coins taped onto it when your leader says.

I help my dad in the garden for pocket money. But if it gets too cold we clean the house.

Activity: Poster funTo let people know about a fundraising event you need to tell them.

You are going to make a poster to promote a fundraising event.

how to do the activity

1. Your leader will tell you about a fundraising event for the Scout Group. Maybe you have got a cake sale coming up or a barbecue?

2. Draw a poster for the event in the space. Remember to make your poster eye catching and fun. It needs to tell people about the event so don’t forget to include the time, the place and the date.

We held a cake sale. My dad helped me bake a cake for it and I made some posters. We sold them at school to raise money for a trip to London.
