Beauty of Soul
Rev. Swami Vivekanand said it beautifullythat every soul has the
potential to bedivine. Taking a leaf out of this wisdom wecan go a
step further to say that every soulis fundamentally
divine.Potenialy divinewould mean one is to make efforts to makeit
divine where as if we say fundamentallydivine then all one needs to
do is bewatchful so that the soul does not deviatefrom its pristine
nature.ill will, hatred and greed are the real causesof war,
terrorism and corruption in ourworld. Imagine what a wonderful
place thisworld will become if it is rid of these humanvices.
Should such a miracle happen themoney now being siphoned off by
thecorrupt will be used for providing primaryhealth care to
billions of deprived children.No child will be orphaned nor
womenwidowed by the explosions set off byterrorists. By the same
taken, money spenton armament and terorist activities will goto
improve the lot of the less-privileged.We all know that no one at
peace withoneself can do any wrong. If we analyse anysuch momnet
when some one was hurt byour conduct we would always find an
excusethat it was because of anger, greed, ego,ignorance or wrong
perception.This againmeans that irrespective of the nature of
thehurt it is never intentional. All wrongs aredone because of
anger, greed, lust, pride,hatred, ignorance or lack of wisdom
,which
are certainly not consistent with the divinenature of soul.

result of some ones perception based uponhis knowledge and
wisdom.I shall cite an incident from my own life insupport of my
belief in the Beauty Of A Soul.In the year 2000, lawyers of Delhi
went on astrike in protest against police assault onsome of their
colleagues, which resulted inthe suffering to the litigants, some
of whomhad to remain in jail because there were nolawyers to plead
for them. I felt that wewere wrong to be on strike, and took
aconscientious decision to oppose thestrike.Most of my
fellow-lawyers, who wereangered by my views, criticised me
roundly.But some time later the very samecolleagues supported me in
the election forthe post of secretary of the Supreme CourtBar
Association ( India ) and helped me winhands down. It proves the
theory of BEAUTYOF A SOUL.We all are possessed with good
thoughtsmost of the time and we also do deedswhich we perceive as
good according to ourown training and evolvement. Even theworst of
human beings are not obsessedwith evil thoughts all the time. Such
peoplealso do charitable work from time to time.
This is evident when a person or a group ofpersons comes forward
to do social service.At such times many people offer to do theirbit
to help advance their cause. Thiswillingness to lend a helping hand
is again aproof of the human souls divinity as also itsbeauty.All
negative feelings such as ill will, hatred,
anger and pride, disturb mental balance andundermine the feeling
of contentment which

in turn result into actions like terrorism andcorruption. once a
person realises that noone is his enemy one would not bear ill
willtowards anybody. One would not feel hurtby harsh words spoken
by someonebecause of his/her perception andevlovement. if one
understands the theoryof Beauty Of Soul and the theory of Lawof
Impemanance one would reflect uponthe real purpose of life. One
would feelcontented, develop love and compassion forall fellow
human beings. One would notthink of terrorist actions and
mindlessacquistions.one would rather become awareof the impermanent
nature of human lifeand all worldly objects. And once this
truthsinks into our inner being we shall cease tothirst for money
or power and bend all ourenergies towards the service of
humanity.One should always believe in the beauty ofsoul and as such
feel blissful all the time.We shall do well to remember the
followingcouplet of Kabir :: Sayin Itna Dijiye Ja MeKutum Samay /
Mai Bhi Bhookha NaRahoon Sadhu Na Bhookha Jay. ( Lord !Give me just
enough for my own and myfamilys keep so that neither we nor
ourguests go hungry.) All of us must ponderwhat contribution we are
making to oursociety and whether whatever we are doingis in
consonance with truth and the beautyof soul. There are of course
people like BillGates, Warren Buffet, Narayan Murthy andSridharan
who are making solidcontributions to make this world a better
place but their number is minuscule,considering the scale of
problems facing our

world. If most of those occupying positionsof power feel the
Beauty Of A Soul in theirbones and resolve to obey the call of
theirconscience our world will be transformedinto a place where no
one will go hungry ordie for lack of medical care or suffer for
lackof education.
