The Buzz on Bees

Honey bees are super-important pollinators for flowers, fruits and vegetables. This means that they help other plants grow! Bees transfer pollen between the male and female parts, allowing plants to grow seeds and fruit.

Sadly, over the past 15 years, colonies of bees have been disappearing, and the reason remains unknown. Referred to as ‘colony collapse disorder’, billions of Honey bees across the world are leaving their hives, never to return. In some regions, up to 90% of bees have disappeared!

Help the Honey Bees

The Oswegoland Park District recently acquired 3 bee hives with 10,000 bees each. They hope to have up to 60, 000 in each of those hives soon!

You can help by planting native Illinois plants at home to attract bees.

CREW

The Hero of Sherwood Forest brings together many colorful characters of the classic tales following Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. Written by Limelight’s very own Mark Melton and Ryan Sendef, Sherwood Forest deals with the large dichotomy that exists between the rich and the poor, a central theme that is still very relevant to our modern society. In the long struggle between those who have more and those who have less, there is no single hero. Rather, everyone becomes their own version of a hero, fighting for what they think is right. In this original adaptation, the characters are presented in new ways, subverting their well-known personas to explore what truly determines wealth, happiness and status, what truly makes someone courageous, what truly makes them a hero. Thank you for attending tonight’s performance. We hope you enjoy the show!

It’s been such an incredible experience working on Winnie the Pooh. I grew up loving Pooh Bear and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. I had a stuffed Pooh bear I would drag around with me almost everywhere I went and I would play my VHS tape of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh on repeat until it began to warp. It has been a love of timeless characters and endearing stories that I’ve passed on to my son, Marshall, who has graciously taken mom’s willy-nilly-silly VERY old bear and loved it as his own. My intention with this show was to bring that love to the stage and get reacquainted with an old friend. I couldn’t have asked for a better directorial debut than this show. I came into this experience not entirely expecting the overwhelming amount of support from the cast and the outstanding directorial team I’ve had by my side. It’s been such a warm welcome to this side of the process and I’m overjoyed to have been able to see the wonderful changes the cast has made from day one to now. I want to thank everyone who has given me this opportunity and been a part of this production. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every one of you (yes, you!) for being a part of this experience. You the cast, you the crew, you the parents, you the audience member, you are all amazing and have made this show what it is and I am eternally grateful for it. Thank you! I hope you have enjoyed this ride as much as I have!
