H ELEN B EA RD
Where in
the world have Harvey
and
Helen
Beard
been
the
last 'ew years? India?
Thailand? The Philippines?
Australia?
Yes.
all of these
guesses
are correct and more. At
the age
when many
would
be
seeking a quiet
place to retire,
H and
H Beard. Inc. have
kept their suitcases packed and their
passports in hand, answ ering the call to
those faraway places .
Harvey
was
born October 7 1914 in
Maryville,
California
to
William
and Jenni e
Beard. In
1933 he
received an A A
degree
from
Vuba
County Junior College. In 1935
he
received an
A.B.
from Paci f ic Bible
Seminary,
hi s
M A in 1936, and a B.D. in
1950.
H e
h ad a lso received an A.B. in
1948
from
the
University of California and
hi s
M A
from UC
in
1955.
He
began
teaching
at
Pacific
Christian College in 1936
besides
preaching part-time for 17 years.

and have
five children;
David,
Roger . Ruth .
Martha,
and Philip.
The Beards' world t ravels began in 1963.
when the president of
Pacific Bible
Seminary urged Harvey to
go
on a
Bible
lands
tour. For 20 years Harvey had
served
as missionary chairman of t he Parkc re st
Church
of
Christ
in
Long
Beach where
he
was an elder. During this lime he had
corresponded
with many missionaries.
So it
was that
Harvey determined to visit
as many
missions as possible while
on tour.
He
visi ted

th e
Guy Mayfields in Italy on
hi s
first tour.
Another
lour
followed in 1968 to Europe
and
the
Holy Land. During this time Harvey
taught a Bible
class
in
the
Lugano Christian
Service Camp
in Italy Harvey's interna
tional teaching tours had begun Each
summer he returned to Italy meeting other
mis sio na rie s which led to
teaching
in
Switzer land,
Germany,
Belgium,
and
F r a n c e
Following other P.C.C. lours, Harvey
took
a
s ix-month sabba tical teaching
in Hawaii.
Japan,
Korea, Hong
Kong,
and the
Philippines,
He
taught
a full semester in
Kenmore Christian College
in
Brisbane.
Queens land Austral ia . The remainder
of
the trip was
spent
with missionaries in
Thailand,
Rome,
Switzerland, and
England,
and
Bible sites
in
Iran. Turkey,
and Greece.
In 1979 Harvey and
Helen we re a sk ed
to
spend a
year
teaching in AparrI Bible
Seminary
in
the
Philippines
while
Charles
and
Roberta Selby were
on furlough, On
the
way,
they taught m Kulpahar. India and
spoke at a
convention
of hundreds of
Christians in Sitapur
and
taught
Bible
in
Thai land o n th e u rm a b ord er
Their planned one yea r in the Philippines
extended to
three
years, ending in
March
of
1983. During the school breaks, Harvey and
Helen continued the ir t ravels , returning to
India. Thailand, and J apan .
Now home
again
in California, the
Beards
can
reflect
back on
the
way
the
Lord
supplied all of their
needs
over the years.
Sometimes
just to
the penny,
funds would
be
supplied
for the ir work of
encouragement
and
instruction.
Where will Harvey and
Helen travel
next? No
one knows , but
they
will
be
ready
